Linking a free IPKall number to a VoXaLot account (so that dialing the IPKall DID will ring the adapter registered with your VoXaLot account) is free and easy to do. In fact, I did just that this weekend as part of setting up a VoIP phone for a relative away at college.
All you need to do, is go to
http://ipkall.com and create (and "verify", using the email that IPKall will send to your listed email address) an IPKall number/account with the following IPKall settings:
Account type: Choose the "SIP" option
SIP Phone Number: Fill this in with
*010 followed by your 6-digit VoXaLot number. For example, if your VoXalot number was 123456, then you would put *010123456 in this field.
SIP Proxy: us.voxalot.com
{i.e. just put the string "us.voxalot.com" in for this field
NOTE: sipbroker.com, my previous suggestion, also works but us.voxalot.com is a slightly more direct route from IPKall to VoXaLot}
Email Address: Put in a valid EMAIL address that reaches you. NOTE: Only one IPKall number per email address. So if you want/need more than one number, you will have to use different email addresses on each IPKall account/number.
Password: Whatever password you want to use to log into your IPKall account. NOTE: I think this may be limited to just 4 digits, so if your chosen password doesn't work, try again with a 4 digit password.
Seconds to Ring before Hang Up: 120
{i.e. leaving this at the default 2 minute ring seems to work well.}
And that is all that is needed. When I did this for my relative, I had the new number working within minutes, and yes I verified it (by calling the number from my cell phone) and it did in fact ring through to her VoXaLot account (and from there to the VoIP adapter I had registered with her VoXaLot account, giving that adapter full inbound calling using that IPKall number FOR FREE).
NOTE: Most of the time IPKall activates numbers fairly quickly. But there have been some rare occasions where it takes a day or two before the newly signed up number becomes active.
BTW: Don't forget that IPKall will drop numbers that are unused for more than a month. So if you don't have a lot of people calling you at that number, be sure to call that number yourself (and wait for the call to be answered) every 3 weeks or so. Otherwise, you may find that when you want the number, it has disappeared for "non-use".
