Default VoXaLot

This thread in Sipura forum turned into a discussion of Voxalot; so if folks don't mind, I'll continue here.

As to an option to forward "incoming calls" via one of your "providers" on your account, that has already been suggested by other users, and I think is on the "to do" list (along with a whole bunch of other enhancements).

But I'm afraid I don't have and ETA for when that feature to forward via your chosen "provider" (vs just via an open SIP URIL) might come out.

BTW: Don't forget that "providers" in VoXaLot are not just for the "Web Call" feature, they can also be used from your ATA when you send the call via @voxalot.com (with your voxalot login info). And if you do use the providers via the voxalot.com proxy, you get the full power of the voxalot "dial plan" to decide where to route the call (based upon the number called, if the number gets a hit in ENUM, etc).
See, when I am near ATA (aka at home) I don't have any problems to solve. I have flat rate VSP (VoicePulse) for local calls and very cheap good-quality pay-as-you-go VSP (VoipDiscount) for international calls. I played with SipBroker and enum, but they don't give me much value to risk Wife Acceptance Factor that dipped significantly while I was BroadVoice customer. On top of that neither VSPs allow incoming SIP calls (or at least I couldn't figure out how to set them up; and I looked at SIP URI based forwarding, but I don't quite understand what it means (yet).

My business case is to use VSP when I am on the cell. I realize, of course, that Voxalot is not there to solve my business case

Just a warning, so that people aren't surprised when the time comes.
I realize that, but allowing "trunking" (incoming VSP => Voxalot => outgoing VSP) doesn't increase Voxalot's bandwidth expenses over current WebCall (Voxalot => outgoing VSP1; Voxalot => outgoing VSP2).

Anyway, I am glad it's on the drawing board!

Correct. But "Web Call" is one of the features that will probably have a small cost associated with it at some point (to help cover some of the bandwidth/hosting costs assocated with all the call-bridging being done). I don't expect that cost to be very high, mind you, but it's unlikely to remain free forever...

Agreed. It is a logical feature, as it allows you to setup some fancy "call forwarding" with providers that don't have powerful "call forwarding" built in.

But as I said before, I don't have an ETA for that feature. And I don't even know for sure, exactly where that feature fits in the "priority list" (i.e. that may have to wait until after some other features are released).

Default RE: Re: Voxalot

I think Voxalot is wonderful. This is an amazing utility and I am going to be highly recommending it to everyone I know with BYOD capability.

Here's a question for you Draco that isn't in the FAQ, :P

Suppose I don't want to use the Voxalot voice mail server for answering my phone calls. My DID already comes supporting voice mail and I think it works pretty well. It at least has custom wav uploading, and forwarding to email, and at one point stutter tone compatibility. (Does Voxalot vmail have stutter tone?)

Can I disable Voxalot vmail somehow? If so, what Voxalot dial plan (or Sipura dial string--if that'd even work) do you recommend to get the ability to dial directly into the DID's vmail in the way that Voxalot's is immediately reachable by dialing 500. Currently (or formerly rather, since I changed my SIP registration to Voxalot!), I would reach my vmail by dialing *98. If I clumsily try to add *98 to my dial plan at the web admin page for Voxalot, and then 'test' it, I see it will dial Sip Broker instead and not my DID provider.

Suppose Voxalot's vmail is enabled. If I just add that DID that has vmail's SIP proxy to the Voxalot list, after 4 rings, who answers, Voxalot or the DID's native voice mail? Is there a battle to see who answers? I certainly can't afford to lose potential vmails into oblivion, it could mean money to me. If absolute need be, I will have to somehow get my DID provider to disable their native voice mail so Voxalot doesn't conflict with it.

At another topic entirely, that of latency (my arch-nemesis when it comes to VOIPing),

By going through Voxalot, do I add an extra 115-137 ms (my average ping to Voxalot across 12 pings) in latency beyond the latency Voxalot itself will have when communicating with the SIP proxies it is registered with. Suppose my ping from my home averaged about 80 ms to Voxee's SIP server, and it is 120 ms to Voxalot. And suppose Voxee's proxy is about 80 ms from Voxalot. Does that mean phoning with Voxee changes from an 80 ms latency to a roughly 200 ms latency from the end user's point of view? That would seriously suck. Please allay my worries.

Default RE: Re: Voxalot

Ah big problem, my DID doesn't work anymore. All calls get routed directly to its voice mail. All my providers are listed in Voxalot as "true" under the Active category. I thought that meant registered or something to that affect.

I think I see now how Voxalot is mainly for managing outbound dial plans and not (yet) for managing multiple SIP accounts that have DIDs. Ugh. So my last post was useless and premature. Voxalot doesn't even work that way right now. When Voxalot does register with the SIP proxies in its list, then that will be truly interesting.
