I am a novice myself and do not know how to sniff packets using Ethereal (Wireshark now). i tried that but could not figure out the data that appeared and what to make of it. I tried rebooting, but it did not set back in time the firmware. I also tried uploading an older version of firmware, but impossible, even with instructions that I found online. |
It's not that simple. You can't sniff the credentials, they're encrypted. You might be able to hack your ATA/Router, get the encryption key, download your config file from Vonage and use the key to decrypt it so that you could find out your credentials. That takes patience and the right tools and it's not for the faint of heart.
Also, if Vonage catches you (for example because they change the file and your adapter uses the old one, or you use a different adapter and it sends the wrong user agent string) then they'll cut you off and might retroactively bill you at business rates.
I unlocked my adapter and did this for a while (mostly because I enjoyed getting away with it) but it was pretty much pointless.
Save yourself the headaches- go with a real VOIP provider that gives you your SIP credentials and actually supports what you are doing. If you're like me and don't make a ton of calls it comes out cheaper anyway. I use VoicePulse connect for no other reason than they actively support Asterisk and, while not the cheapest, have proven themselves extremely reliable.
