Please note: It is not necessary to upgrade your SPA if your device is remotely provisioned by a service provider.
The easiest method for upgrade is to run the executable file included in the archive downloaded from
Linksys. This program should be run on a PC that is on the same subnet as your Linksys SPA.
If you are not on a Windows platform, the easiest way to upgrade is to use the spa.bin file included in the archive downloaded above. The Linksys SPA's built-in web server interface, in conjunction with a TFTP server is used to activate the upgrade.
- If necessary, install a TFTP server on a PC on the same local subnet as the SPA device (e.g. you may use the free TFTP server software from solarwinds.net). Most Linux distributions include a tftp server.
- Place the firmware upgrade "spa.bin" file in the tftp root directory of the active TFTP server.
- Determine the IP address of the powered-up SPA device (IVR menu ****#110#).
- Request the upgrade from a web browser. If the TFTP server is running on the same computer: assuming a.b.c.d is the SPA device ip address, http://a.b.c.d/upgrade?/spa.bin. If the tftp server is on a different computer (a.b.c.d is the SPA device adress, x.y.z.w is the tftp server address), use the following URL: http://a.b.c.d/upgrade?tftp://x.y.z.w/spa.bin
- The SPA should then get the new firmware from the TFTP server and reboot.
Note that instead of using TFTP, you may also use HTTP in version 1.0.30 and above firmware.
