Default Voicepulse Connect crappy audio quality?

Hi All,

Seeing that VPC finally offered DIDs in my area I added one to my account. previous to this I had only been using them as a backup way to place long distance calls from my Asterisk server. However, I am appalled at the terrible quality of the incomming calls.

I also have an 800 number issued by Clearpath. Calls coming in on that service are crystal clear. Calls placed through VoipJet are also great quality.

What's the deal with VPC? Why might calls coming in from them be so poor? I'm on a 3.0Mb/768kb dedicated loop DSL. All calls incomming and outgoing are via IAX2.

My Asterisk server is running Asterisk CVS-HEAD-10/03/04

I know that, at least in the past, there have been voice quality issues if you use CVS versions of Asterisk against VoicePulse, and they were specific to using IAX. I'm curious if the call quality is any better if you switch to SIP.

I'm willing to try this. Does anyone have an example of how to set this up in Asterisk? I believe that the VPC web site has docs on IAX only.
