Talkswitch seems to have been revamped. It is now Fortivoice: www.fortivoice.com Appears as though the VSX product line was a bust. I think Talkswitch has gone down hill since Fortinet's acquisition. Going from lifetime support to 90 days and you have to buy additional support is killing the company--it would appear.
Yes. It seems that 7.20 is not compatible with VS systems, too. What is new on 7.20 compared to 7.11?
I didn't find it. I tried to, but there is no link, even for previously registered users. It is my idea that this firmware is not compatible with VS. I asked to somebody at Fortinet and I will wait for their answer, but I doubt it is compatible...
There are still glitches in the last software version 7.11.004. Under Tools/Memory Usage, you will find the time usage summary to be partially incorrect. The percentage appear accurate but the recording of the remaining time is off.
Well, I am afraid that Fortinet will not take care of it. When Bird 187 was in, we got a great support. Now I don't know if they will issue something else for the VS systems. Did you already address this issue to somebody at support?
I e-mailed them this morning...hopefully they will respond. I used the support@talkswitch.com--hopefully they still are forwarding that support e-mail since the transition was fairly recent. No bouncebacks yet.
I know that writing to Talkswitch.com the mail works. I have a contact there, Erin Hitchcock, she is really nice , her email address is ehitchcock@fortinet.com. She is with TS since a long time.
Ok, I got confirmation that 7.20 is available for VSX and FVC systems...I will address to Erin about the issue...
I didn't expect the VS to be at its end of life already. Too bad. If you get a chance to contact Erin further, could you see if the glitch in 7.11.004 will be fixed for the VS systems? I haven't had a response yet and haven't e-mailed her since I know that you are making contact at this time.
I found this link to where one can download FortiVoice's software. I'm not sure if the FortiVoice Management Software is the old Talkswitch Management Software (51.7 MB). If it is, the download is version 7.11.002. Not sure what the FortiVoice console application is but it lists the software as 7.20.001 (19.7 MB). The size of the FortiVoice's Management Software is consistent with the Talkswitch Management Software. Here's the link: http://www.fortinet.com/fortivoice/downloads/
Thanks for keeping us updated, LTN. Do you think Fortinet is going down hill from here? My boss has implemented a talkswitch system each of our 5 offices, I'm worried that it may have been a waste of time. We have periodic issues with them as is. With support getting worse, and now this, I worry about how long things will continue.
simster001...Talkswitch, overall, has been a good product--I've owned three during the past 10 years. That said, their products, especially software, has always been a work in process--this is why they have always offered lifetime support (and they advertised their lifetime support) until the Fortinet acquisition. Without that support that stems from software glitches and defects, it would be more expensive for customers to maintain their units in the long term. When Fortinet implemented the 90 days only warranty, I think that tanked the VSX line. They think that they can "redo" their image by putting the same component in a different case, calling it FortiVoice--but I don't think it will help unless they modify their support by continuing to offer free software support without additional costs. Heck, it's their software that has the glitches causing many issues. To make customers pay for additional support after 3 short months is a product killer. I also think that they're trying to avoid the assumption of the Talkswitch lifetime warranty by revamping their unit exterior and name. That will probably scare off some people when they say that the FortiVoice is now a new product and has nothing to do with the old Talkswitch, however, legally, when they acquired Talkswitch, they acquired both the benefits and liabilities. They would likely not be able to refuse continued lifetime support for the older Talkswitch units like the VS, CVA, CA, etc. (assuming that it was a glitch in their software)--but they will try. However, the newer units like the VSX and the new FortiVoice lines will definitely be under the new warranty. I think that new warranty, unless changed, will be a product killer for them. If they go down in a year or so, there goes future support for any Talkswitch.
Hello LTN. Here there is the answer from Erin Hitchcock at Fortinet: Dr Aloi, I've only had one other client report this issue to me in the 7.11 version of software. Can you confirm for me whether you have a memory card installed in your system? If you manually restart the TalkSwitch system and reconnect to the software, is there still a discrepency in the memory used? *** Well, I still have the 6.50 version installed, so I am not able no to reply to her email.....any hint?
Giuseppe Aloi...I don't have a memory card installed in my VS system but do have 7.11.004. Before responding, I manually restarted the TS system then reconnected the software--the issue still occurs.
