Does anyone out there use VOIP on satellite internet; if so, is the conversation quality on par with

I'm considering going to satellite internet due to my rural location and using VOIP (specifically Skype) as my phone but am concerned that there will be a noticeablely troublesome and possibly umworkable delay due to transmission time...Hate to spend the bucks and get locked into a one year contract for the satellite internet if it is poor in this regard---Also, any opinions in general on satellite internet speed, reliability, quality?
