I am looking to connect an ATA adapter, on the same LAN as the TS 48CA, to provide local VOIP extension(s) to an analog phone(s).

I have so far tried the Linksys SPA2102 and the Grandstream HT-386 with no success whatsoever in getting them to register.

Has anyone succeeded with any ATA adapter, preferably with two FXS ports?

There are a couple of settings to watch out for in the configuration of the Linksys and the Grandstream products.

1. Proxy and Registrar fields are the private IP of TalkSwitch
2. UserID - the Local Extension number, i.e. 111
3. Authentication ID - this is the username for the extension, i.e. user111
4. Authentication Password - password found on the Local Extension page, i.e. pass111

The one other thing that you need to watch out for is that you make sure that NAT is disabled in the gateways, as this will also cause you grief when you attempt to make calls.

Registration - not.

On the other hand, an Aastra 480i CT phone with exactly those settings works fine.

Try clearing out the Username and Password fields from in the TalkSwitch software altogether. When TalkSwitch receives the Registration request it should accept it and register the device. If this works then the problem is the authentication values.

Another option is to run a SIP trace. TalkSwitch does support a SIP capturing, this may be useful to determine why the Grandstream is not registering. To enable this feature open a web browser and type in the following:

http//<Private IP Address/msglog

Check the Enable Box and then click on the 'Save' button. Then try to register the Grandstream ATA. When you click on the SIP hyperlink in your web browser it will display all SIP messages that were sent and received by TalkSwitch. You can always send this data to support@talkswitch.com for analysis.

I already tried sending them a SysLog from the Grandtsream and got no response. They do unequivocally state that they provide no support for IPphones not on their list.

But I can try again.

Make sure that you send in the SIP trace from the TalkSwitch unit, unfortunately any syslog outputs from ATAs will vary from product to product. I would recommend 2 captures, one with authentication, and one with out so that they can compare the 2.
