| Done Right, it would need some kind of real-time translation ability. It seems even most of the big boys don't get that. Many claims can be made of size of some of these social networks, but in reality, most of them are fractured into sections confined to language barriers. So, the only real way to build a true international community is to provide an easy method for your users to communicate as well as read/write community content in their own language and allow others to read/write in theirs as well. What amazes me, is that most social networks don't give a hoot about who can communicate with whom, size is what matters it seems, so these pools of users sit confined by their language barrier, yet technology moves forward. If most social networks fractured user pools were countries, travel would be confined to car or boat, the concept of flying anywhere and a getting to someplace in hours vs days is not possible at this time. So the Key is do your best to allow content to be read in many languages and allow your users to communicate easily both in real time as well as other methods using their native languages. Personally, I have tried to provide some real-times methods for Skype chats so that people using Skype for example can in fact do just that. Chat using their native language in a multi-chat, break down some of the current language barrier restrictions that currently are in place for these communities. It's a work in progress, but it's a start, it's far from perfect but better than what most of these large communities offer at the moment. Here is an example of what I mean: testing.OnlyTheRightAnswers.com - Universal Chat Language Translator and Speaker for Skype Let's deal with some of the insanity of logic involved even with some Big player and communities. I think it is safe to say that people who use Google Ads are a community. What good does "Click to Call" do for small companies trying to break into the international market if they don't speak this or that language? Would common sense dictate that there should be some "Click to Chat" ability for those companies, so that they could support inqury on their services or products using some sort of real time machine language translation without the need to have many people on staff as human translators to answer calls from "Click to Call" inquiries from people who they might not know their language. Going back to transportation. The first cars compared to today were far from perfect, yet, most people sooner or later decided to use them more than their horses ar some point, lol. So it's about time to push online machine translation and much like cars, it will improve over time. Instead of total focus being on, can the user post pictures, and content, good communities should be based on, can most if not all users understand the content posted ANYWHERE in the community, and can most if not all users communicate with most if not all users in real time. Advancement in social communities has gone from IRC to being able to support pictures and video, not very impressive for a technology that has been around for decades if you ask me.
