Default Polycom 500 can't boot local configs

Hello everyone. This is my first post so please bear with me. I'm the VoIP admin at my company and we deal with mostly Polycom Soundpoint 500 and 501 phones. I recently have been messing with booting from an ftp server in order to configure the phones. I successfully was able to configure my 500 without a hitch. The problem I have is that I can't go back to having it boot locally, as in without the ftp server configs. I really don't want to have to rely on the FTP server to help boot the phone every time someone wants to move it across the room. When it boots without the server it gets the "error loading <mac>.cfg!" and then reboots. It would also seem that everytime I successfully get it to load with the boot server, when I reset it, whether I go through the menus or just unplug it from the back, the very first thing it does when I turn it on is "Formatting File System". Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it just erasing everything I need to use my phone? Is there anyway to keep it from formatting? I'm currently using version 2.1.3.0028 of sip.ld if that matters. Thank you in advance.

Downgrade to version 2.1.2.0078 of sip.ld. You can download from Polycom web site. I had this same problem. It's either a bug or a dumb feature of the new SIP software.

Thanks for the advice to downgrade to Sip version 2.1.2. I was just having the same rebooting problem with a Polycom IP 500.

After downgrading the firmware using FTP and then changing the FTP IP to something bogus (so it can't find the server) is now working.

If you are looking for the sip software, Polycom now has a nice site: http://downloads.polycom.com/voice/v...es_matrix.html

Sam
