Default Registering India's PSTN number

Does any one knows how to register India's PSTN number on PhoneGnome?

I want to send one unit to India.

a). Will PhoneGnome works from India? I mean, I'm here in US when I will dial India number 01191<Areacode><PSTN Number>, will call go to India or device only works in US?

b). What number I should put it while registering India's PSTN number?

From USA, Calling to India is done by 011<India country code-91><STD code><PSTN local Number>

Do I need to put STD code for Indian city + PSTN local number?

India's telco numbering scheme is not like US. Each state has one STD code for each city. If you are calling within that city then you don't dial STD code but if you are calling from one city to another city then you have to dial STD code for that city + PSTN local number.

Should I put 011+91+std code+pstn number while registering Indian number?

In INDIA, STD code mean Subscriber Trunk dialing code.

Thanks for advice!

Unless they reply to your post here first, you should contact PhoneGnome Support to ask them about the availability of Indian compatibility.

Default RE: Registering India

For PhoneGnome units shipped to countries outside the US/Canada where automatic self-provisioning is not yet implemented, we have a user-assisted setup process to assign the PSTN number. The form requests 'Country:' which is a pull down field so should be easy, and 'PhoneGnome telephone number:'

The easiest way to explain the value to be placed into the 'PhoneGnome telephone number:' field is to take the number as called from the US, and then simply strip off the 011 and country code. So if one dials 01191999888555 to call the number in India from the US, then the value to place into the 'PhoneGnome telephone number:' field would be 999888555

Make sense?

I have been told by many business people in India that connecting a PSTN device to VoIP is still not allowed - it is illegal.

I have a friend who resells Sipura 2000s but he can't sell Sipura 3000 which will "bridge" PSTN with VoIP.

If any one has an update on these regulations, I would be grateful if they would post. Om Malik???

Thanks.

your question is not clear. You are sending the unit to india and you are going to call indian number from US? or you are going to call from India to US number?

Yes, you should put the STD number in without the leading zero that you would dial domestically within India.

As for the legalities of connecting to the Indian network, it is true that the SPA3000 has not been submitted for type acceptance in India. Without that type acceptance, packetvoice's friend is unable to sell SPA-3000s to anyone who intends connecting it directly to the network.

There are ways around this, including putting your SPA3000 behind a PABX. Only the PABX's trunk cards require type acceptance, so you are free to connect any device you want as an extension of the PABX.

Hi guys,
I am in UAE and use phonegnome to call India without a hitch. Works like a baby, as most of my calls are to my home where I have place a phonegnome on a BSNL dataone 256K.
As for legality, phonegnome is legal as it doesnot bridge incoming VOIP to PSTN for now. (unless u use a 2 line phone and conference).
As for configuring yr number, if u send them a mail with the number u want configured i.e starting with std code without zero , they will ship it preconfigured. Also can be done at the website.
You dont need a pstn line for phone gnome to work. It will look for a PSTN only if VOIP doesnot work.
brgds

Default Is PhoneGnome Blocked by ISP (BSNL DataOne)

I purchased PhoneGnome &Sent it to India. I am using RT31P2 Router.
I connected the PhoneGnome as given in the Manuel. At the beginning ,iwas able to call *611, **747 to call my SipPhone.

At the beginning, We heard high &low pitch dial tone.
when we dialed **3,we heard the message "set up is not completed fully",
We have "always on " internet connection at home.

Next day we were working on it. We got Local telephone company dial tone. we thought PG has started working. This time when we dial *611,**747 , we got the message from local Telephone company saying, "Number you entered
is not in use"Incorrect number.

Then I emailed to tech support abt my problem, they told
In order to complete the international setup ,please follow the steps below.

1.Lift the the Handset of ur PG Phone(ignore any unusual dialtone, if any)

2.Dial **468

3.When prompted ,enter the following PIn code:5189

We entered **468 & entered the PIn:5189, we got message from local telephone company saying " Number you entered is not inUse". We realized that PG is not connecting to Internet through the Router Port. we changed the Router to LinkSys model"BEFW11S4". We tried samething we got same Problem. We are able to connect Other computers to Same Rotuer. STATUS light is always Blinking.

What went wrong with PG. it is not able to connect to Internet.
Is PG Dead? do i need to replace the PG??
