Default RE: Is PhoneGnome Blocked by ISP (BSNL DataOne)

Please do not connect the India PSTN line to the PhoneHnome. It is not only illegal in India, it may cause some damage to your PhoneGnome.

You should only connect a phone to the device. Configure the number by going to URL below:

http://my.phonegnome.com/intlsetup

Then select the number information and you will receive instructions for the setup.
I have done this and sent phones to a couple of my friends and these are working great.

asethi, can you please expand on the warning of not connecting the PSTN line to the PhoneGnome in India. I am interested on the technical side, what kind of damage are you aware of?

The reason for my question, is that I know of a few people who have successfully connected PhoneGnomes to the PSTN in India.

Also for the PhoneGnome's setup to be complete, it has to be connected to both a PSTN line and an ethernet network.

Please check with PhoneGnome support if the unit has been tested while connetcted to India PSTN line. If it has not been tested then I would not connect to the PSTN line.
The configuration does not require connection to an international PSTN line. The URL above can to be used to configure it for countries other than the US.
For more details, please contact PhoneGnome support.

yiannis,

Please read the Sticky thread in the Linksys/Sipura forum that discusses Indian localisation for the SPA3000. PhoneGnome uses SPA-3000 hardware with custom firmware to execute the PhoneGnome services and features. That thread should give you good background on the risks, benefits and uncertainties of trying to connect an SPA-3000 to the Indian PSTN, which advice should be directly applicable to your PhoneGnome device.
