| I've been playing with VoIP for less than a month, and am having a real problem getting PhoneGnome (Softgnome w/ remote access on a Mac) to produce anything but muffled sound and too much echoing on the other end of a call. (Strange that it's just fine with incoming Gizmo and outgoing Skype.) I've tried both Express Talk and X-Lite with the same result. At the moment my wireless router is out of the system, so I'm hard wired to the DSL modem. Don't know where I read it, but seem to remember something about ports needing to be open... but I don't have a clue. Really like to get this working. Any help appreciated. Jim |

| We provide PC software for Windows. The Mac version of NCH Express Talk is new and still may have some issues. The fact that you've tried X-lite for the Mac: http://www.counterpath.com/x-lite.html and still had problems is weird. A lot of people have used the X-lite soft-phone on Macs with PhoneGnome and had good success. Opening ports should not really affect sound quality. If it's working at all, then port forwarding and such is working (it either works or i doesn't). Perhaps you will need to use a headset. Leave a message on the **611 line so we can hear what you're hearing. Last edited by PhoneGnome : February 19th, 2008 at 10:27 PM. |
