Default PhoneGnome: Outgoing CallerID & keeping future options o

I've been contemplating purchasing a SPA3000 for the very purpose of playing with VOIP without disturbing my PSTN line.

It appears that PhoneGnome might be just the right thing for me. I have a couple of questions

1) When dialing out via an ITSP what Caller ID is sent to the callee? (e.g. When I call my college buddy, what comes up on his caller ID?)

2) Should I become unenamoroued with the PhoneGnome integration, (a)is the physical box sufficiently accesible that I can use it with my own asterisk configuration as I would a SPA3000? (b)Can I flash a Linksys/Sipura firmware to the device to restore "stock" functionality?

I think you've got a really good idea here. Especially from the less-techy consumer base (and less techy relatives of techies consumer base).

From the feature set you offer, it appears to rely on some centralized services that you provide (including directory resolution, sip proxying, call control, etc...).

Providing these centralized services comes with financial risk. The margins on the hardware sales will likely only offset that risk. However I do want the box to work, even if you do not.

I hope you feel comfortable providing some answers,
KnipSter

1) It depends greatly on the ITSP used. Many support Caller ID spoofing so it will look like you're calling from your landline when you're really doing it from VoIP.

2) No, the PhoneGnome is a locked SPA3000.

Beside Nufone, who allows Caller ID spoofing? (Just a PG, no Asterik, etc)

I am useing voxee but do not get callerid displayed. It comes as "no number" on my cell phone. Is some special setting required to get callerid spoofing?

There was an option at one time to enable this feature in the MyPhoneGnome portal, if I recall. I'd ask the folks at support@phonegnome.com about it.
