Default Phonegnome BYOD

I just read in Phonegnome's website that they are now supporting BYOD. I would like to know if I configure my SPA 3000 for Phonegnome, will the SPA 3000 be permanently locked with Phonegnome and will not be able to configure the SPA3000 for other voip purposes?

Thanks.

The SPA3000 would have to be put under control of PhoneGnome through a provisioning rule, which means the device would effectively be locked and you would not be able to configure the device yourself. I suspect that should you ever decide to not use your SPA3000 with PhoneGnome, an email to support@phonegnome.com would get your device unlocked.

Thanks. Here is the reply of Phonegnome support:

"We can reset your device for you at your request. However, we
cannot assume liability for any problems or damage that may occur as a result of attemtping to transform it into a PhoneGnome."

Once the device is in "PhoneGnome mode" it is no longer an SPA3000. It is so-called "locked" while it is a PhoneGnome box. Our technicians will return it to a generic SPA3000 at your request if you ever wish to do that.

The device must be so-called "locked" when it is operating as a PhoneGnome because once it is transformed into a PhoneGnome box, many device settings are irrelevant or potentially harmful. The PhoneGnome system requires that the device be programmed in a very specific way to operate properly with the PhoneGnome service.

If you want to use the SPA3000 as a generic SPA 3000 with PhoneGnome service, you can do so by setting up a web-only account and activating a "SoftGnome" SIP account for that web-account. The "SoftGnome" SIP credentials can then be programmed into the SPA 3000, or any SIP softphone/ATA. In that mode, the SPA 3000 will not operate in the seamless and transparent POTS/VoIP integration as when it is a real "PhoneGnome box". It will not self-provisition nor will it have other features only available when operating as an actual "PhoneGnome box" but you can use it as a normal SPA 3000 that way, with the standard features, capabilities (and limitations) of a standard SPA 3000.

The features you gain with the SPA 3000 transformed into a "PhoneGnome box" are:
  1. Seamless, automatic, dynamic route selection dialing (with a standard SPA you can only do static dialplan based or "pre-select" type dialing)
  2. Voicemail to email that works for calls to the POTS line. See: PhoneGnome - Voicemail-to-Email
  3. Telemarketer Screening (for calls to your POTS line too) See: PhoneGnome - Telemarketer Screening
  4. Option to use Find-me/Follow-me on calls to your POTS line
  5. Option to use MobileGnome to access your POTS service remotely via mobile phone (or any remote telephone) by calling your POTS line
  6. SoftGnome remote access to your POTS line service (answer calls to your POTS line on your PC, or place a call using your home service from your PC)
  7. Skype Integration. See: PhoneGnome - Now Works with Skype Software
  8. Option for Tellme Dialtone 2.0. See: PhoneGnome :: Help
  9. Option for iotum Call Screening that works on calls to your POTS line. See: Shop PhoneGnome - Call 888-891-6390
In general, operating as a "PhoneGnome box" means seamless integration of POTS with VOIP and a smooth integration with the PhoneGnome service and My PhoneGnome portal Operating as a standard SPA3000 means "dual-mode" where the VoIP account is separate from the POTS service.
