Default Re: newbie - PhoneGnome and dial plan configuration

This is my first post. I do not know how to start a new thread. I want to ask a question.

I bought new PhoneGnome box and sent it to India and instructions for connections were followed. All connections were checked. When the box is connected the etnernet led at Router is blinking. now there is no computer and this is direct connection to broas band. however after waiting for appropriate time, when phone receiver is picked up there is no dial tone. The status line which should come on when the receiveris picked up, does not come on. This was tried several times, with and without RJ 11 connection. Any solution?

What is the STATUS light doing (the LED on the end of the box with the RJ11 ports)? Is it steady, a repeating pattern?

It could be the box is jnable to get a DHCP address.

Did you use the International setup instructions? Automatic self-config only works in north america. Elsewhere a user-assisted process is required. Start here: PhoneGnome :: International Setup

My cousin in Nicaragua is having the same problem (kind of), he hooked up the box and I directed him to go the the website to register, although I didn't send him to the international website to set it up--I didn't know it was a different website for international, he went to the regular and created the account and everything; then we setup an IPKall number for me to call him from the US. He can receive calls fine but, when he picks up the phone he doesn't get a dial tone to make a call, he says he only hears a sound kind of like the old modems, alternating beeps. He has to hook up the phone directly to the wall to make a local phone call.

Also, can anybody direct me to instruction on how he can call me? If I understand correctly, I created an account in phonegnome with my cellphone number in the US and, since he has an account too, he call call me for free? I went to the website and, according to what I was reading, he has to add me to his contacts and the system automatically add numbers in front of the contacts number, for example, for Contact#1, he would have to dial 00-555-555-5555 with the first 2 zeroes being the number of the contact and them moving up. Is this correct? We tried it and it didn't work, maybe because of the same problem him not having a correct dial tone.

Thanks,

I am no expert in this regard and My knowledge is like yours. In your situation, I would as him to disconnect everything and start from the scratch.

What I face is trying to contact other phonegnome members from phonebook but I cannot contact the people abroad like in UK by clicking on the name. I get the message that "the number you are calling is not a member". which is not true. I can call then by manually putting the whole number "01144####....". I dont understand what is the correct way to put the phone number ( I mean what way our contacts should have put their number during registration).

There's only one way to put a number in correctly in terms of registering an account and that's so that PhoneGnome can understand what the full International number is.

PhoneGnome presumes you know how to call the people you want to call. When you add a number to your PhoneGnome contacts, add that number the way you have to dial it (such as your example 01144####....) If you add a number as a result of a whitepages search, just be sure to edit the number field if needed so the number is appropriate to how you dial that number in your area (adding a 011 or 00 international prefix if needed for example).

You say you can call them by "manually putting the whole number" well then that tells you the number you need to put into the contacts (phonebook) entry for that person, that same "whole number" that works.
