| Okay, I have yet to crack open my PhoneGnome. I want to know whether the MobileGnome feature can accept incoming calls from my VoIP line. My PSTN line is metered service with no features and I only have it so I can get the cheap AT&T (SBC) DSL. Here are a few questions I have: 1) Does MobileGnome work with VoIP? (Pretend I don't have a PSTN line) 2) How many numbers can MobileGnome work with? (My family has a family mobile phone plan) |

| The answer is to one is "yes" we're pretty sure, but exactly how you set it up does depend on what specific "VoIP line" it is (service). The question is how does the incoming call to the "VoIP line" get to PhoneGnome. PhoneGnome has to receive the call to answer it. If the "VoIP line" service supports forwarding calls via VoIP using standard open-standards, that's one way to deliver the call to MobileGnome too. It should not be an issue to call the AT&T (SBC) number and let MobileGnome answer it and place the outbound call using an Internet service (one of the plans shown at: PhoneGnome - Call for 2.0 cents per minute or less or any compatible SIP termination provider of your choice). If the questions is, can you connect your "VoIP line" to the PhoneGnome box instead of the AT&T (SBC) line, that should work too, again perhaps depending on the "VoIP line" service. As for your second question, currently MobileGnome is setup to trigger on one number, but there is a work around way to trigger it manually for other numbers (you have to wait for the PhoneGnome voicemail to answer and then hit a key). Multiple numbers is a good idea, and we can manually set that up for you until it's available as a standard feature if you wish. |

| I just tried disconnecting my PSTN line from the PhoneGnome and then calling the PG via an IPKall number that is set up to go to my PhoneGnome. I got the MobileGnome prompt, but when I tried dialing an outgoing call, it said "calling via local phone service" and then I got an error message. So, I have not gotten MobileGnome to work with both in and out VOIP calls. My ITSP is Gizmo Project, in case that matters. |

A couple of things. With the PSTN line "available" (since the call arrived via VoIP), PhoneGnome will try to use it if the call is "supposed" to go that way (would have gone that way if dialed on the handset). So at a minimum, you have to dial a number that would normaly be sent via your ITSP service in this case where your calling from the net (i.e. dial as a LD pattern and have ITSP activaed for such a call). Second, regarding Gizmo Project, it does matter. Gizmo Project is not designed to be a SIP termination service. It is designed to be "the" service, for in out, etc. They don't behave well as the "forwarding ITSP" and they can botch certain kinds of bridging, transfers etc. This is not a shot at Gizmo. It's not intended to be a pure SIP termination service, so we're lucky we're able to use it with PhoneGnome at all. The best answer, if you want to use Gizmo, is to use a "pure" termination ITSP as your "Forwarding ITSP" along side Gizmo as your LD and/or International ITSP. Select a Pay As You Go plan like Inphonex which has no monthly fees and we know works properly with PhoneGnome "forwarding" modes. Prices are still decent and the only calls that will use the service are these "forwarding" events. |
