Default Calling PhoneGnome from SIP Broker.

Users of the free "SIP Broker" service ( http://www.sipbroker.com ) can already call PhoneGnome users via SIP Broker' "peer code" (*746) for PhoneGnome. That's been working for some time now, but requires the user to know ahead of time that a given phone number belongs to a PhoneGnome.

But that's not the way that PhoneGnome works internally. When someone with a PhoneGnome calls another number, PhoneGnome checks to see if the number is calling another PhoneGnome, and if so it auto-routes the call to the user "for free".

It would be nice to give SIP Broker users the option of having their SIP Broker to PhoneGnome calls be just as transparent (i.e. auto-detect that a "phone number" matches a PhoneGnome, and automatically make it a free VoIP to VoIP call). This should be possible, because SIP Broker already has support for ENUM (which does that exact automatic detection of VoIP numbers), and the PhoneGnome people have given us the address of the "ENUM root" that they supposedly use for PhoneGnome. So in theory, we just add PhoneGnome's ENUM root to SIP Broker's ENUM service, and we are "good to go".

However, the problem is "testing". We need to know the "phone number" (PhoneGnome number) of someone who actually has a PhoneGnome (that they leave on most of the time), to verify that we can properly query PhoneGnome's ENUM root (and none of us involved with SIP Broker own a PhoneGnome). And we also would need to arrange a time when we could make a few test calls to your PhoneGnome, to verify that everything is working as expected.

If someone is willing to help us out with this little project, please PM me with your (PhoneGnome) info. Of course the main benefit of this, is to make it that much easier for others to benefit from "free calling" (when they call you), by allowing people using the free "SIP Broker" service to call into a PhoneGnome as easily (and transparently) as another PhoneGnome user could! This benefits PhoneGnome users, by making their PhoneGnome more valuable to their friends/family (who might be on other VoIP services). And it clearly benefits other VoIP users, as they would then no longer have to know ahead of time that a given number reaches a "PhoneGnome" in order to get the call as a free VoIP to VoIP call!

But this project won't happen until/unless we can verify how to setup the SIP Broker end of things to do this, and that will require the assistence of someone who has a PhoneGnome. Any PhoneGnome users willing to help us with this little setup/R&D project?

Well the good news is that the first phase of the test worked (for me at least). Looks like they are on their way.
