Default NuFone problem! Need another carrier ASAP!

Just got this on my account email address:

Quote:
Effective 3pm EST Today, April 18th, 2006 Telesthetic, the carrier supporting the Toll-Free
and Michigan DID operations of NuFone, has threatened to terminate our services. We were
only informed of such decisions on Thursday Afternoon, April 13th, 2006, which as anyone
knows is abolutely not enough time to solve the complex matters at hand.

Initially, we were hopeful that we could work out an acceptable deal, at the very least,
to allow us enough time to move your telephone numbers to another carrier without much, if
any service interruption. Sadly, this no longer seems to be the case.

We are currently working with another carrier to host your Toll-Free numbers. However, you
may want to consider submiting a Number Portability request to another carrier, to avoid
any service outages caused by Telesthetic's threat to terminate our service. We can
always port your number back to our service at later date, at no cost to you.

If you would like to keep your Michigan telephone number you will need to contact Telesthetic
directly at 248-724-0600 to determine if they will provide you service or not.

We are going to do everything we can to survive yet another failed business partnership. We do
not intend to give up. We can and will prevail through yet another time of great challenge.

We will update you as soon as we have more information.

Thank you for your continued support and words of encuragement.

So, anyone like to share ideas about number porting? Other carriers with a similar rate structure?
I have a tollfree DID with them, so I'd like to find somewhere that has comparable pricing.

Maybe I should just wait it out?

Thanks in advance!

I will wait them out. The fact that I am going on vacation anyway starting next week for three weeks may have something to do with my lack of urgency, but if they are not back in business by the time I get back, will look really hard at www.exgn.net - price structure for toll free numbers similar to nufone, and good feedback elsewhere on voxilla forums.

Default NuFone PR: situation has been stabilized

Apr.19.2006 The situation with Telesthetic has been stabilized and all services are operating as expected. We have conference calls setup at 9 AM and 10 AM Eastern on April 19th, 2006 to finally iron out all of the details surrounding the business relationship between NuFone and Telsethetic. I regret the situation was forced to become yet another very public incident for NuFone, but actions needed to be taken to ensure our continued success. Once again all of us here at NuFone want to thank you for your support.

We have been unable to restore services as we had hoped. We are continuing to work to restore full services, but circumstances beyond our control are slowing the process. Thank you for your patience and continued support.
Here we go again. It's somebody else's fault. They cut me off. Nobody likes me. I didn't do anything.

This is just another case of a loser hurting voip. If a company is going to take the responsibility of giving out a telephone number then they better make sure they have their bases covered. This pissing contest with their supplier was done without regard to people that depend on these numbers. Broadvoice and Nufone. The two top losers in the voip industry to date.

I'm confused by the Nufone situation. Why are they at the mercy of another company? To be a VoIP service provider, do you not have to be a LEC of some sort?

Nope. Anybody can plug into the phone system with a T1. Grab yourself a free unsupported PBX and some cheap tdm cards and your off. Nufone never learned not to dump on their customers and they probably won't learn not to dump on their vendors. This kills them though. Losing your telephone number is a business threatening situation and it's unlikely they will ever be trusted again except by those that can't read or don't do their homework before they jump into voip.

Wow, amazing. I guess they just go through a LEC?

Anyone who has ignored repeated warnings about NuFone's questionable business practices and stated 'well they are technically great and it works' are now all left without service and may no longer make such statements. I can't resist not to say told you so, as this no doubt stems from NuFone's complete ineptitude when it comes to commericial matters. A provider with technical skills only, is nothing, as we now see.

I would strongly recommend that anyone that uses NuFone for business purposes find an alternative solution as soon as possible. Even if the service returns in the next 10 seconds, a huge amount of damage to NuFone's financial stability has already been done. I can guarantee that NuFone has already lost a significant number of customers, permanently.

Further, any provider that so haphazardly plans changes to their networks as to jeopardize their customer's service in this way, should be out of business. Wait, maybe they did not exist in the first place???

NuFone update:

Expect more detailed announcements soon. Link
What is amazing here is that it appears NuFone is not accepting any responsibility for the situation. NuFone is the service provider to the customer, it is their responsibility to ensure a consistent and stable service both technically and commericially. They have failed quite dramatically.
