Default Looking for two best free VOIP-to-VOIP provider

I recently bought a Sipura SPA-1001 here on Voxilla and I want to buy another one to send to my folks overseas.

Since SPA1001 can have two services, what are the top 2 free services available?

I was thinking about fwd and sipphone (gizmo). What do you think?

I wanted to setup 2 services so if one is not working we can use the other one. Will this work well with the SPA1001?

Thanks a lot!

Default Free VOIP to VOIP service provider

FWD (FreeWorldDialup) is one of the providers that I have used successfully on my SPA.

FWD works, but unfortunately has a lot of downtime. I have very good experience with UK based sipgate.co.uk where if you live in the UK also gives you a free local number.

I have suffered no downtime with FWD, but I also exclusively use FWD's SIP Proxy (without their Outbound Proxy) and with FWD accounts older than the 7xxxxx range.

For free with something extra thrown in, I recommend you check out StanaPhone. For no monthly fee you get a real New York telephone number for receiving calls from the outside world. You will need to deposit $10 in your account to activate the account and give you the ability to make outbound calls to ordinary numbers, but this money never expires.

If you're not interested in outbound minutes you might sign up for SIPphone (US based) or BBPglobal (Australia based). These two services are totally free if you don't prepay outbound minutes from them, and each offers public access numbers so that you may receive calls from the outside by a caller ringing an access number and then entering your account number.

If "overseas" is Italy, check out messagenet.it for your solution. For no monthly charge you get free on-net calling and a real Italian phone number in Rome, Milan or Turin.

vbuzzer is also a good choice for VoIP to VoIP calls where usual SIP ports (5060 range) are blocked.

Messagenet is pretty good. I was hoping they would have better Europe rates but the service is still good.
