Default Locked phones / adaptors

Hi,
I subscribed to Cliconnect Internet Telephony service and was questioning them about hardware issues. They claim that I can change to anoter provider any time I want, because they don't sell locked phones like others providers do. Is this true ? Do I have to care about this when buying a phone?

thanks

Olavo

Most people in the world don't care. Most people on this board do care very deeply. If you are buying the phone from them - the choice is really yours! But if you are buying a phone from Voxilla (who has a little better prices) - you should care!

Anyway, based on their instructions it looks like they don't lock the phone

By the way, I don't think seeing any references to cliconnect on this board. So, once you have some experience with them - please come back and give some feedback.

Good luck!

Default Cliconnect Service

Just to let you know that I've been using http://www.cliconnect.com service for two months or so, and am very satisfied. The only thing I didn't like the first time was that the live support took some time to answer me. I think they were a little overloaded tough.

Default Cliconnect.com voip service

I have used their service for almost a year now. The only complaint I've had turned out to be my internet service, once I fixed my provider problem the phone quality has return to very good to excellent. I always get an answer back the same or next day. The rates are very competitive especially to South America where my wife is from.

Having your own unlocked adapter gives you a lot of flexibility that you don't have with providers that furnish the (locked) adapter. With the unlocked Sipura adapters you can have more that one provider programmed on the adapter and have a second "backup" outgoing provider or perhaps because of relatives you call a country where your primary provider's sound is 2d rate so you want to find a provider for that call so that you can hear properly. Lots of reasons to buy flexibility.

Am I reading correctly that the monthly service for US/Canada plan is $33/mo ($21.95 for outgoing + $10.95 for incoming number)? I guess, "competitive is in the eyes of the beholder... The internationaly rates are indeed on the lower end of the competition... but $33 is more than my Bell bill was!
