Default Zyxel 2000W v2 problem/hard reset

I got the zyxel p2000w v2, and it was working fine till today. I turned it on, and it loads, showing "obtained ip from dhcp server" and then it restarts. Is there a way to fix this? Maybe do a hard reset?

There are two things you can try. First, silly as it sounds, try starting up the ZyXel with the power plug disconnected. I have found that sometimes the power supply puts noise on the line that confuses the bootstrap loader. If that doesn't work, try removing the battery for a couple of hours.

By the way, what firmware do you have now? If you are running anything earlier than WV.00.03 you should upgrade the firmware once you get the beast started.

I actually got it to work by turning off my wifi, and it couldnt connect, and then I was able to turn it on. It works now, but Im afraid if I go to a hotel, where I cant turn off the wifi, it might happen. It had the latest firmware on it. I did notice that thing with the power plug in while turning on the phone. Im just wondering why did it do that?

Now that it's working again, I would try cycling the power a few times to see if the problem pops up again. My experience is that problems like this come up only every once in a while, but your experience may vary.

I also had occasion (twice) where the phone would sync up with WiFi, but would not Register with Asterisk. The first time this happened, I did Factory Reset (hold left soft key while powering up - a procedure change from the miserable user manual), reload of the firmware, and complete reprogramming (including retyping the entire phone book by hand), and nothing worked. In frustration, I took the battery overnight and in the morning everything was fine. The second time it happened, I took out the battery for a couple of hours and it came back to life.

Interesting. I did a few power cycles, and it seems fine. Im going to test it out a week or so, since Ill need it in about 1.5 weeks when ill be traveling. Is it the firmware thats the problem, or cheap parts? Its a nice travel phone when its working, but things like these can cause a damper on travel plans. Ill make a printout of all my settings so I can quickly fill it out.

Thanks

I don't think there's a hardware problem, although it seems that there is insufficient power supply filtering/protection on the USB port. I think the problem is a combination of bugs remaining in the firmware and ZyXel's reluctance to discuss these bugs and work with the user community in order to fix them. Bug reports go unanswered, release notes are nonexistant, Admin Manuals are nowhere to be found, and there are no User Manual updates to go with the new firmware.

A good example of a feature change is Factory Reset. Instead of holding down the Send button while powering up, you now need to hold down the left soft key while powering up. There is also a Factory Reset confirmation now, so you don't accidentally pith your phone.
