Default zoom 5801 - uk regionalization

hi. has anyone already been through the process of changing the necessary settings so the device works on a standard uk pstn line ? if they have, could they share their settings.

while i found this info quite easily for my last ATA (spa-3102), i haven't been able to find the info for the zoom 5801.

i've submitted the same question directly to zoom so if they come back with anything i'll post it here.

cheers.

I did make a few changes to the default settings, being;

Port impedance:370+620||310nF
CID Type 1 and 2 modes: ETSI ring
FXO Port Caller ID Sent After One Ring: Disable
Disconnect tone definition: 2 0 0 400 -30 400 -30 (not sure about this one, I tried to convert from the Linksys format, and it might not even be needed)
PSTN dial pattern: p8[1-9]e#r5xp3r*x|0Se#r5xp2r*x|

I think that was all, not noticed anything untoward happening, though I'd like to see the reply you get and compare it with my settings.

Whilst you're here can I ask which firmware yours is at? I stuck at 1.24 because CID stopped working when I went to 1.25.

The more 5801 users we can get here to start sharing info the better!

the initial response i got from zoom was that, based on my serial number, my device should already be configured to work in the uk out of the box.

as the default settings look uncannily similar to the default settings on my sipura, i have questioned this, however i must admit i haven't even plugged the pstn in yet so i haven't actually tried, i just assumed it would have to be changed based on what i had to change on the sipura. i'm gonna plug it in a bit later and do some tests, got to get my head round the dial patterns on this ATA first .

i registered my ATA for the automatic firmware upgrade and it has upgraded to 1.2.4.

I think that port impedance and CID type should be set to UK values, the other settings are less crucial.

Let us know how you get on, nice to build up a picture of this ATA and how well or not users get on with it.

ok, i'm struggling with dial prefixes/patterns. my initial, fairly simple requirements are for all calls to be routed via pstn by default. if i prefix the number with #1, the call should be routed via VoIP account 1, #2 for VoIP account 2, etc. etc.

so far i have set :

VoIP Accounts : Your VoIP Account : Dial Prefix : <#1:>r*x
VoIP Accounts : VoIP Account 2 : Dial Prefix : <#2:>r*x
VoIP Accounts : VoIP Account 3 : Dial Prefix : <#3:>r*x
VoIP Accounts : VoIP Account 4 : Dial Prefix : <#4:>r*x

Subscription Services : Dialing Parameters : Configure VoIP Dial Pattern : <#[1-4]:>r*x
Subscription Services : Dialing Parameters : Configure PSTN Dial Pattern : p8[1-9]e#r5xp3r*x|0Se#r5xp2r*x

if i dial a number that doesn't start with a # i see the telco light flash but then i get the "the number you have dialled cannot be recognised" message.

if i dial a number that starts with a # i get a fluctuating dial tone and i can tell from my vsp's website that no calls are being made.

any help is appreciated.

I have the same requirement to mainly dial over PSTN but make some specific calls over VoIP, so I have mine setup like this:

Under dialling parameters set dial direct to PSTN only and set Dial after #9 to VoIP only. This takes care of the basics, in other words no prefix routes the number dialled direct out to PSTN, and obviously #9 followed by number routes to VoIP 1. (by-the-way, I have dial after 8 and 9 set to 'both' and #8 to 'disallowed')

I use the default way of routing between the 4 VoIP accounts, so dial prefixes are all cleared on all 4 VoIP accounts and the way to choose which account to use works like this:

To dial out of VoIP account 2- Dial 2# plus VoIP number
to dial out of VoIP account 3 - dial 3# plus VoIP number
to dial out of VoIP account 4 - dial 4# plus VoIP number
Defaul account is VoIP acount 1 and no pre digits required.

So if you clear the prefixes it should work as above. It took me a while to sus this out, but I found it in the manual somewhere...I think.

I have the same dial plan for PSTN and VoIP which is: p8[1-9]e#r5xp3r*x|0Se#r5xp2r*x| This is basic but is all I need. See if works this way for you, then if want to be more adventurous take it one step at a time.

Hope this helps!

for info, i am still in ongoing discussion with zoom, who have been very helpful, however everything is currently on hold as the ATA is having to be returned. zoom noticed that the ATA was over 18 months old when i'd only purchased it a few weeks ago. looks like one of their distributers had a load of old stock. you can tell the age of the device by the first 4 digits of the serial number. mine was 3426-... which means it was manufactured on day 342 of 2006.
