| I have been working with Zoom on getting single stage dialing support added to the device. I e-mail zoom support and asked about this feature. They responded by asking me what I was trying to do. Low and behold two days later I have a firmware upgrade to 1.25 that adds single stage dialing for VoIP to PSTN calls out the FXO port. I was very happy with the support I received from Zoom. They were quick to resolve the problem and even added a very important new feature to their device. If you have a Zoom 5801 and need support for single stage dialing then please go to their support website and register your MAC address with thier update server. You then need to login to the ATA's webpage and enable the device to receive configuration and firmware updates. Save your settings then click the reboot device button. The ATA should download the new firmware. You can verify by setting up a syslog server (I use the free kiwi syslog daemon for Windows) and filling in the IP of your syslog server in the syslog field under Advanced>System>ATA Maintenance Once you have the new firmware then go to Advanced>Subscription Services>Bridging From VoIP to PSTN and enable the VoIP Bridge Single Stage Dialing Enable option. Now all calls to the ATA will be terminated without the VoIP user getting a new dialtone. I am using the ATA as a gateway between an existing PBX and the new VoIP server. The ATA works great for this use. I assume it would also work great as a hybrid ATA for home where you may want to send long distance calls to a remote VoIP provider and have local calls sent out the FXO port. The device also supports four SIP providers so if you have a SIP PBX at work you could have the device register there as well and use a simple dialing plan to support calls to work, VoIP provider and the PSTN. I don't work for Zoom, but I am very impressed with their support and their device. |

| I've just got a Zoom 5801 to try. When I log in (administrator/metamorph)I don't see any advanced features, in fact there is a message at the bottom of the User Config page saying: "Note: The full set of advanced features is available to VoIP providers ONLY!" I've put a support request to update my 5801 to frimware 1.25, until then I can't really do anything with it. I only see one sip provider setup, not the 4 that I was expecting, no access to dial plans etc. Is there anything I might be able to do before support get back to me do you think? UPDATE: My firewall was blocking the loading of the 'banner' on the home page where the advanced menu etc is located. Now I can get access to all the extras. So far I'm happy, and no echo on the PSTN. I can't use the SPA3102 because of the echo, put this 5801 on the same line and its crystal clear and echo free. Need to sort out some dial plans and get VoIP/ PSTN bridging enabled, but looks straightforward enough. Last edited by ezhik : March 12th, 2008 at 10:06 PM. |

| That line about VoIP providers is on every web page even when all the options are enabled. Are you sure you purchased the 5801? There are several different models. The 5801 is the model that is fully unlocked. To see all of the options you need to click the advanced button along the top row of buttons. Then you can navigate all the sections/options using the options in the left hand navigation column. |

| I think your reply just missed my edit and update to my post, (see times). It was the firewall blocking the banner where access to all menus is. I'm surprised there isn't more chat about this ATA, seems equally as capable as the SPA3102, and for those of us with unresolvable echo, is the better ATA. |

| Been using this ATA at home while deciding whether to get rid of the POTS line. Have been very happy with the quality, but am now having a problem. Received firmware 1.2.5 and it updated ATA configuration to 1.2.5.01. Unfortunately it defaulted to a Global Village account so had to input registration for ViATAlk. Can receive calls on the VoIP line but can't make any calls on the VoIP line without the very fast busy signal. Confirmed the ATA is registered and the dialing pattern is good. Any ideas? |

You then need to go into your ATA and configure it to check for a software update upon restart. Then power cycle the ATA. It will check for new firmware automatically. You should enable syslog on your ATA and configure a syslog server on your computer so you can see the status updates when your device is rebooting, checking for firware, etc. I use kiwi syslog deamon on Windows for this pupose. It is free for the basic version. |

| I wonder if the reason is because 1.24 is the latest stable version for general release. If you want 1.2.5 maybe you will have to request it. I did and had some issues with it (CID not working on UK line). I actually RMA'd my 5801 as it started to hang on a reboot. I just got the replacement and it was v1.1.2, did the update thing, and within about 30 mins it picked up v1.24, I did wonder if it would go to 1.25, but as it didn't I wonder if it's fair to assume 1.25 is by request only? | Zoom provided great customer service in helping figure out what the problem with VoIP outbounds calls were after upgrading the firmware to 1.2.5 - it was me. Several days of email back and forth along with a debug log enabled them to figure it out. Now back to enjoying making calls. Great ATA. Roundaway |
