Default UBER ATA - The Linksys - WRT54GP2

Check this puppy out at http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.p...article&sid=63

and the full manual at :
https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/f...ive_or_pdf=pdf

It appears the Router supports two concurrent incoming/outgoing VoIP lines!!!. Looking at the manual, It also supports call dorward etc, yet I couldn't see any port for PSTN line. If PSTN support is missing; it'll make this device a bit less attractive. Otherwise, the feature set is SEXY.. QOS, Wireless, 3 port wired router etc etc.

Linksys is REALLY going into VoIP BIG TIME

Pity it's Linksys. Perhaps their association with Sipura will help them offer a decent product. I've abandoned all the Linksys gear I've used over the past year.

Remember that Linksys is now a wholly owned division of Cisco Systems, Inc. Cisco has been going after the VoIP market hard and heavy - in fact the ATA 188/186 were among the very first products of their kind.

Disclaimer: I'm a Cisco employee.

sk3-483; I'm surprised you're disappointed with Linksys. I used to Cisco (who own Linksys) ATA 186 before getting the SPA3000. Though the 186 was short on the features the SPA offers, its a much older product and was rock stable for the year or so I used it.

I've been using a Linksys WRT54GS router for a few months now, and have had no issues with it either, save a few on a/c of the Sveasoft firmware I've got running.

I've had several BEFSR-41s and BEFSR-81s over the past five years. The 81s had a known problem for a long time where they would lose WAN<>LAN connectivity requiring a restart. It happened so frequently that my wife leared to power cycle the router in my absence, and stopped telling me when it was necessary.

Sometimes it would happen 5-6 times day, other times only 2-3 times a week. While under warranty I returned the router. The replacement eventually had the same problem, but when the warranty period was over Linksys became unresponsive.

Linksys steadfastly refused to do anything about the firmware for the device for over two years. They subsequently released new hardware revisions which support newer firmware. I hope that they have fixed the problem that I was experiencing.

However, back in Feb I junked all my Linksys gear and switched to m0n0wall as my router. My experience with this has been far beyond anything that I knew with Linksys or Netgear products.

It's just simply a better router; better traffic management without resorting to third party intervention, great pptp server, handles my Asterisk server easily. It did cost a few more $$ since I went the Soekris route for hardware, but I haven't had to restart it in months.

I can't speak to the Sveasoft firmware or the WRT54G specifically, but I'm done with Linksys.

I do wonder why they (Linksys/Cisco) would partner with Sipura to embed ATA functionality when they practically invented the product category with the ATA-186?

P.S. - when I used Vonage, all of 2003, I too had a Cisco ATA-186. It was a reliable device, but Vonage seemed no longer appropriate when I migrated to Asterisk.

Michael,

I think its a/c of the fact that the Sipura is formed by the same people who created the ATA186 at Cisco (or the company Cisco took over; apparently, ATA 182, precursor to 186 was made by a company called Komodo, www.komodofone.com, which Cisco took over) , and then left to form Sipura, taking their expertise with them, its a bit like the guy from Palm leaving to form Handspring, only to be taken over by Palm again after a few years; WHCIH Cisoc might do as well with Sipura.

Sorry, prabu, but this has been mentioned many times. It is currently not possible to use any Vonage-locked Linksys device with any other service provider. I have heard one rumor of someone cracking a PAP2, but have not seen any corroboration to this rumor.
