Default Softphone + Router = Easy or Difficult?

I'm trying to do a little homework before I go off an try something a little different.

I currently have a VoIP service with a (locked) ATA. That is configured just fine, so we'll leave it alone :-)

I would like to use galaxyvoice with a softphone, like X-Lite. There are instuctions on galaxyvoice's website how to configure X-Lite, which is fine. However, my home network has a Linksys router attached to the cable modem. Obviously my PC is behind that.

Two questions:

#1. Will the Linksys (NAT) cause me grief? Should I look to open ports?

#2. What about use on the road with a laptop? Are there any gotchas there?

If there is a tutorial on this somewhere on the web, I would be grateful for a link. I've looked a bit and haven't found anything that helps a lot.

Default RE: Softphone + Router = Easy or Difficult?

Please run your experimentation without messing with the ports. As noted in many threads here, Linksys routers are generally very friendly to SIP clients. So, try out X-Lite on your laptop, put GalaxyVoice and a free service like FWD on it, and play with it. You really can't break anything beyond redemption.

p.s. Your best education is to read through the postings here at Voxilla. I would peek in on each one and move on to the next as that one lost my interest.
