softphone for Palm/PPC?

Hello,

does any of you know a softphone that works on Palm/PPC/ Symbian/etc.??

I have signed up for a flat VoIP plan, which includes calls to many countries and a UK geo DID number.

For the moment I use it at home with a Sipura, but I won't mind at all being able to call and be called thru that from my cellphone!

As you probably know (most of you are from US so used to a different situation) here in Europe cellphone have special range of numbers and are quite expensive to call. However, mobile internet is cheap and fast with GPRS (54kb downlink/32uplink) and UMTS (384kbps downlink/164 kbps uplink).

Since my good ol' cellphone is about to die, I am thinking about getting one that allows me to install a softphone so I can use it VoIP on it!!!

Flat mobile internet plan start at 20Euro/mo. so Gossiptel+mobile internet will be 26+20=46Euro/mpo. for unlimited incoming (on a London number) and outgoing call!! Not bad!

Any advice or personal experience?

I know X-lite has been ported to PPC, but they don't support many low BW codecs... which a pity!

Skype also has a PPC port, but it's a proprietary thing... I'd rather not use them (and they won't give you a DID anyway)

I would prefer a softphone for Symbian (Nokia) or Palm (Handspring). As far as I know there's no GPRS/UMTS phone running WindowsCE (PPC) OS so...

The Siemens SX 66 runs Windows Mobile 2003.

Oh, lovely phone... a bit expensive but very good considering it's a ppc and a phone in one device.

It also has Wifi (and bluetooth) so I can use it home under my access point coverage!

The only problem is that it's apparently only sold branded by cingular - in the US - and I wonder whether it will work with other GSM providers (i.e. SIM lock) and - most importantly - in Europe (must be tri or quad-band for that)... but thanks for the really great info, I'll try to gather info about it!

Marcelo bought one for his wife as a gift, then ended up buying himself one. He loves it, and yes it is pricey.

Cingular pretty much sells all their devices locked these days, but I'm sure someone's got a way of unlocking it. It's quad-band, which is a bonus.
