Softphone Direct Call to IP on LAN G.711 Codec

I am looking for a softphone that will allow me to directly dial an HMP server on my local LAN via its IP address, i.e. 192.168.0.5. It needs to work with the G.711 Codec.

This is possible and has proven to work with a Zultys ZIP 4x4 hardphone but I'd like to have a softphone option for travel purposes.

Is their such a thing available?

Either X-Lite or SJPhone will do what you want. Please read the previous postings to get a feel for their respective pros and cons and then use the one that fits your desires better.

Also, since you mention "travel purposes", please read the postings that talk about the challenges you will need to meet in order to reach the server on your LAN from the outside world.
