Samsung iDCS500 - VOIP???? I am not expected a rash of answers on this one, but anybody with experience with Samsung gear, I would appreciate hearing from, or you feel my deductions or thinking is flawed. I have setup VOIP systems using the standard ASTERISK, PBX Embedded devices, SIP & IAX phones, and our office is VOIP external and internal, but this one is just a little confusing.
A client currently has a Samsung iDCS 500 PBX.
I am aware it will handle IP based handsets (it uses SIP), but for the life of me, I can't seem to see any literature on IP Based trunking. The specs in the literature talk about PRI/T1 connectivity but no mention of IP based trunking.
Usually when I find this sort of shortcoming in literature, it normally points to the fact that the feature is not there.
Now this is not to say that it has been incorrectly sold, it just appears that the customer is under the impression that the system is capable of complete VOIP communications, internal and external.
What further concerns me is that the client has been told that they need a separate public IP address for each of the phones to accept incoming calls via VOIP, which then leads me to further deduce that the PBX box itself is not fully VOIP capable, and that the idea floated to the client is that the SIP phones themselves will register with the VSP.
I realise, that I could call Samsung and talk to them, but I am developing a dislike for sales literature and Salespersons, trying to explain things that they don't fully understand, hence throwing the question open to others that may have some real answers.
