Default DID and PSTN Termination Served by Two VOIP Providers

Is it possible to register with two SIP VoIP providers at the same time using a Grandstream HT488?

I have a Toll Free 800 DID from LiveVoIP. They provided me with their SIP Proxy information. When my Grandstream HT488 registers with their server, it works normally. When my friends call the 800 number, my VoIP phone rings and we can talk for $0.0129/min billed in 6 second increments ($0.75/month service fee).

However, I want to use a different SIP VoIP provider for outbound PSTN termination. I want to pick a provider that has dirt cheep rates to the international destinations I call most frequently.

The problem is that I can't figure out how to setup my HT488 to operate using a split personality like this.

Do I need to setup my own SIP Proxy server? What are my options? Do I need to ask LiveVoIP to establish a peering relationship with the PSTN terminator of my choice?

Thanks,

~John

I am willing to be corrected, but I don't believe that any Grandstream is able to call out to another network besides the one to which it is registered.

Sipuras can do this, but only with a cooperative outbound service who lets you place a SIP URI call through their network. In this case, you configure your Dial Plan to suffix the proxy and ID information to the dialed telephone number.

The most straightforward way to accomplish what you are looking for is to set up an Asterisk server, although it seems like a bit of overkill for only one incoming and one outgoing service. Of course, if you were to go the route of Asterisk you would soon find yourself adding other service providers, like FWD, StanaPhone, SIPphone and IPKall in pretty quick order, each to add its own benefits to the mix of toys in your toy box.

Now, if LiveVoIP can forward your 800 number to a SIP URI of your choosing you should choose an outbound service provider who can accept this inbound call. Among the providers, I believe that both IConnectHere and mutualphone can accommodate this, but you will need to confirm all of this before committing.

You need not register to two providers.

See if the 800 provider will direct the 800 number to a FreeWorldDialUp account. Once they do that you can forward (the fwd account) to just about any SIP URI. YOu may then forward that to a supernettel.com accont or other account. you will then register to the New account. Just make sure that the new account accepts inbounds as Supernettel.com does.

You will now have inbouind 800 at your current rates plus outbound via Supernettel.com
