| Anyone know if there's documentation available somewhere on the "Use Security" setting on the SIP client of Nokia phones? It'd be a lot better if the SIP traffic were encrypted between the phone and the provider. Otherwise a user sniffing the network could pick up your VoIP credentials and then make calls using your account. This is especially true for public WiFi hotspots ... ciao, Cybertoy |

| The only documentation I found about the "Use security" setting is in the help page accessed through "Options" on the phone. When you are on the "Use Security" field, choose Options and help. It says "Select if security negotiation is used". Even their user guide at http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/g...61-1_UG_en.pdf says the same. Digging further, security negotiation could either mean SIP authentication, or some TLS stuff. Unfortunately, none seems applicable. Only transport choices they have are UDP and TCP. No TLS. Moreover, from a thread at Re: E60 SIP Support, Can you help ? it looks like "Use Security"=yes does not enable SIP authentication (e.g. Digest). So, need to find out what "security negotiation" are they talking about. |
