| not sure if I have this in the right place. I am looking a HW solution that will be able to switch from a GSM sim card to a vonage phone. The idea I have and I am not all that tech savy is if my wife in dubai can call from her mobile phone to a number that is in the house (mobile to mobile is cheaper)(and pots would be fine also) and will be able to push a number on the phone to access a dial tone to make a call to another VoIP number. and vice versa. Is this workable or doable for a cheap cost and easy set up? |

| Sounds like you need a dual mode phone(gsm/wifi/sip). Look at the nokia 'E' family of phones. Nokia just recently bowed down to the cell providers and stripped off VoIP from the newer 'N' family of phones. However, the 'E' family still includes a VoIP stack and client to allow this to work for you. Basically, insert your sim card in the phone for cellular calls and configure the sip client in the nokia for cheap sip calls(dubai). Insert your vonage credentials in the sip client on the phone. Set the phone to default calls out your sip account. Last edited by marcelo : August 27th, 2008 at 07:17 PM. |

| Dont waste your time, VoIP is forbidden in UAE But if you manage, buy a SPA3102 that will serve as a VoIP gateway at your home in Dubai, local call + dial tone. OR, use some callback service like nomado that will allow you to use VoIP gateway all around the world (well they told me that in some counties it will not work (Egypt ie) but Morroco works great this service..
