| I am going to setup static ip address' for the SPA9000 and each phone. Do you guys recommend doing this on the actual devices itself or setting static ip on the modem/router? What are the pros and cons to these two approaches? |

| More of a networking question, but my favoured approach is to use DHCP on the individual devices and assign the IP address at the DHCP server based on the device MAC address. That way you have less risk of assigning multiple addresses to devices and it becomes more plug and play.

| Don't forget... if your DHCP goes down and you use static DNS leases, once your device that needs a non changing IP address won't be able to get an IP address and becomes non functional.. not something you'd want for critical equipment. I do use static leases a lot myself to have the link with the DNS server (devices that do not report their hostname to my DHCP server), and while there's also an entry for the PBX, the PBX itself does have a static IP address nonetheless and the phones use that address to talk to the PBX. So should the dhcp daemon on my router die, I'm still fully operational until the phones run into trouble once they try to renew their dhcp lease.
