Default SPA9000 with SPA400 dropping incoming calls within 10 seconds

Hello everyone,

..and thanks for reading.

Here is my setup:

SPA9000 = 1 unit (software version 5.1.9)
SPA400 = 1 unit (software version 1.0.0.12)
SPA942 = 8 units (software version 5.1.7)

The system is working as a PSTN only with two lines coming in. We can make internal calls fine. We can make external calls fine. The problem lies with incoming calls. whenever we pick up a phone call, we are able to communicate with the person calling, then the call drops within 10 seconds.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the issue, but the phone system is in Mexico.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Try checking your regionalisation for the SPA400 as it is only PSTN incoming calls which are being affected.
On the Setup>Voice tab, make sure your impedance and disconnect settings are appropriate to Mexico.

There is also a hidden tab where you can define the disconnect tone.
You will have to interpret the frequencies and on-off.
Look at this thread for more details:

For a suggested tone configuration, this site:
http://www.3amsystems.com/wireline/tone-search.htm
provides a reasonable starting point.

Ok. Can you let me know if you find anything? Thanks.

Sorry, I hadn't noticed your post Walford58. Thanks for your reply. I already checked the 3amsystems and saw the info on Mexico's tones. I am not exactly sure how to put those in the Regional Tab in SPA9000. There are slight variations on the current settings than the ones mentioned in the website

SPA 9000 Dial Tone

350@-19,440@-19;10(*/0/1+2)

Website suggested this

425@-10; 10(0.25/0.25/1)

My question here is, should I change to this suggested setting, or am I supposed to use the default setting as the template and modify accordingly?

Thanks again.

It is your SPA400 which interfaces with the PSTN system.

Go to the hide_cptone.htm page on the SPA400 and you will see the call progress tone setting in a format closer to ITU format.

I have attached the working UK setting and also a suggestion of how to implement the Mexico disconnect tone.

Changing the regional settings on the SPA9000 is unlikely to affect the hangup problem on incoming calls through the SPA400.

I have not been able to find your local impedance setting for the SPA400, but either the default through the wizard or using the US default should work.

Hi Walrord58,

Sadly enough, I am still stuck on the sam issue. I downloaded the two zip files you posted, but they seem to be exactly the same, so I don't really know how to put Mexico's settings in the Tones tab on the SPA400. I recently updated the SPA400 to 1.0.0.15, and things looked good. But then I started gettings issues with the caller not hearing us during our outgoing calls, so I reverted back to 1.0.0.12. Well, any other ideas that you might have will be appreiciated. Thanks.

Interesting that you have been having some problems with 1.0.0.15. I have too, but in relation to ringback after the call has terminated.

I apologise - the zip files were the same, just labelled up incorrectly.

Try the following:
High cut off 485
Low cut off 365
First tone on =250
First tone off =250

Also check on the SPA400 voice tab that your silence disconnect period (tear down FXO) is long enough. I have mine set to 60 seconds.
The other setting which could have an impact is the impedance of the line. That is something you may have to research for your area. Be warned that if you have anything else connected in parallel to the FXO connection of the SPA400, this will affect the impedance. You may need to experiment a little around the recommended values.
Mismatched impedance may also appear as additional echo on your calls.

Also check the event logs on the SPA400. It give some indication of CP tone frequencies and errors to help troubleshoot.
