Default SPA400 Voicemail access

Well, although I'm "certified" on the SPA9000 system to sell it, I'm quite unimpressed. (I do like the phones, tho.)

We have a client who has the SPA9000 and the SPA400, and are using the voicemail application on the 400. I'd like to think that Linksys designed the voicemail application to provide some basic features, but we cannot, for the life of us, figure out how to access the mailboxes and retrieve the voicemail by dialing in from an outside line. Anyone have any idea?

Won't Linksys give you priority support as a certified reseller?
There has been one or two threads about the same topic in the past, iirc without a proper solution as of yet. I haven't even gotten around to voicemail on my SPA400 yet. Can you tell us what you have tried so far? I figure what is certain is that you have to route calls to an AA, and from there to the pickup number of the SPA400 but at this point I have yet to get a clue as to the possibility of selecting the desired mailbox and authentication.

Hello,

I have mine working that way - I can access my voicemail system from dialing in from an external line. However, you must be using the Automated Attendent in order to get this to work the way I have it working.

When someone calls my line, the AA system answers with this:

Hello, if you are looking for Sales, press 1.
For John Doe, press 2.
For Jane Doe, press 3.
For our Vancouver Office, press 4.
Or press zero for reception.

There is no mention of the voicemail system. In the aa Dialplan, I have the following setup:

( <1:400>S0 | <2:401>S0 | <3:402>S0 | <4:16045551111>S0 | <0:404>S0 | <*99:800@192.168.0.101:5090>S0 )

It's a very simple dial plan, but what is not mentioned in the voice prompts is how to access voicemail. It's *99. If a person keys *99, the system will transfer them to the Linksys Voicemail system. You could make this anything you want.

Please note that the 192.168.0.101 is "MY" IP address of my SPA400. You would need to replace this with your own IP address. The IP address of all of my SPA equipment is static, to avoid issues with equipment randomly selecting its own IP address and then screwing up my settings such as the one found in the above aa dial plan.

Thank you for that information. It took a week to get a response, but Linksys got back to me today. Here is what they said...

You can use the Auto Attendant (AA) Dial Plan (under Auto Attendant Parameters heading) to transfer a call directly to extension 800 at the SPA-400's IP address through port 5090. The 800 extension is the default Mailbox Manage Number.

To do this, expand the Auto Attendant Dial Plan so as to include a rule that will enable you to transfer a call to voicemail management when the caller from outside presses a key. Assuming that the IP address of the SPA-400 is 192.168.1.107, you may add the following dial plan segment:

(<*:800@192.168.1.107:5090>)

This means that the caller will be directed to voicemail management after pressing the star/asterisk (*) key. The resulting Auto Attendant Dial Plan 1 should look like this:

(10x|xxx.|<*:800@192.168.1.107:5090>)

Click Submit All Changes after this then do a power cycle on the SPA-400 for the changes to take effect.

Thank you for your continued support and patience.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

Yes, that's pretty much how I have my dial plan setup, except I'm using *99 instead of just * to get to voicemail.

There is a bug in the SPA400 that may or may not have already been reported. Once you call through to your voicemail system from an external line, you can press the pound key # to disconnect from the voicemail system. Generally, whenever the # key is pressed the female voice will say, "Goodbye", and you would be disconnected completely. However, I've noticed when going through the voicemail system using the 800@<your.ip.address>:5090, the system does not disconnect. It could leave you hanging for hours which is not good. I am hoping that this bug will be addressed in a subsequent release.

The other question I have is, what if you wanted to transfer the call to a specific voicemail box? What syntax would you use for that? I would like to have the option:

PRESS ZERO TO LEAVE A VOICEMAIL MESSAGE.

<0:???????>

I have no idea what to put in here ??????? if I want the caller connected directly to extension 400 mailbox to drop a message off. If you ever find this out, or if anyone else knows, please post it. I have tried about 5 different things - none of which work.
