| Hi there, I would like to set up a shared line appearance between two Linksys SPA942 phones working with asterisk. I know it's possible but I have no idea how to do it.. Do you? Thanks for your help! Last edited by biknit : April 9th, 2008 at 06:54 AM. |

| I may need to be clearer.. I would two SPA 942 phones to share two lines. So, on each phone, there will be two extension numbers. Thus, any of this two phones can pick up an incoming call on both lines. Lets be more precise. Lets say I have two extensions: 75 and 70, and two corresponding phone lines. On each phone, I want to see 75 and 70 erxtenions. Therefore, when someone calls extension 75, both phones have the 75 blinking and any of them can pick up this call by pressing the corresponding button. And vice versa, for an incoming on 70, both phones have the extension 70 ringing. To sum up, two phones sharing two lines. I think its called, "shared call appearance", or "shared line appearance". Thanks for your help! |

| I don't know if this work with another PBX than the SPA9k altogether, but the SPA9xx SLA setup is quite easy and explained in the admin guide. All it takes is the shared line userid, and enabling sla in the first place (both can be found in the line config pretty much at the top).

In the admin guide, it doesn't say how to proceed exactly to get the shared line appearance to work. It just talks about it generally. I tried many different configurations and settings but, it doesn't work. If you know how to simply do it, could you give more details on how to share an extension between to SPA 942 phones? Thanks in advance! |

| Did you try what I wrote about? There are just two fields that need to be changed from a normally configured line (configure the line normally first, then when it works proceed to the shared line configuration). If anything is unclear, please be detailed.. start with your current config and what you think you should change based on my description above (it'll help me be more clear in the future).

Configured Ext1, then Ext2 as usual on the first phone (ext1 & ext2 config page). Then, change the line key 2 to extension 2 (phone config page), so I can use both extension on the phone at the same time. It works. As I want two phones to use the same extensions, I need to share them. Thus, I need to enable SLA and set a shared userID. In my case, ext1 is extension #75 and ext2 is #70. So, I enabled SLA, and put Shared UserID = 75 for ext1 and Shared UserID = 70 for ext2. Registration goes well, everything's fine so far. On the other phone, I did exactly the same. So they both have the two extensions (75 and 70), all lights are green. It works fine for outgoing calls, but as soon as I receive a call (if I dial 70, or 75 from another phone for instance), only the last phone that registered the extensions rings, and not the other one. For example, if I reboot one of the two phones, it's gonna be the one which rings for both numbers. In my case, I want both phones to ring, not matter which one registered the last. Am I clear enough? Thx a lot |

| Hi There, I'd also like to know how to do this. I have two phones here. An SPA941 (latest firmware) and a new SPA942. We have two SIP accounts and need both phones to be able to send and receive calls for both accounts. Line key 1 (ext1) on both phones is set to one account. Line key 2 (ext 2) on both phones is set to the other account. When the line keys are set to PRIVATE both phones connect OK. Both can make outgoing calls, but only one receives calls. When I set the line keys to SHARED neither phone works. The line key LEDs flash red and dialing the number gives a BUSY tone. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. |

| @biknit: Your last post isn't going to earn you any pointers... it is generally frowned upon if you bump up your thread, especially with such content. Are you sure you enabled SLA on both the line tab AND the phone tab? What you describe sounds like the phones register as private extensions (where it would be normal that the latest registration trumps over previous registrations).
