Default Remote SPA942 registered with SPA9000 (I tried searching!)

Ok... Here is what I got... Not sure what the deal is here. A little background..

SPA9000 with public IP. On the LAN interface is a SPA942. It registers wonderfully. No firewall on the WAN side so using Broadvoice ITSP, can make and receive calls no problem.

Now, move this phone over to another network connection that is NAT'ed. I give it an ip of 192.168.1.61. I have ports 6060 and 5060 forwarding to this IP. I change the webconfig of the 942 and replace the previous internal address (behind the SPA9000) of 192.168.0.1:6060 with the public IP of the SPA9000. I can not get this mofo to register for the life of me!

Is this possible? I used the SPA942 and set the config to talk to my TalkSwitch CVA and I could only get it to work if the unit had a public IP. When it was NAT'ed, I could not get it to register.

I am desperatley looking for help here!

Also, instead of starting a new thread, is there an easy way to pass a call through to one of the FXS ports without going to the AA? IE: A fax fax machine?

THANKS!!!!

contact lists Who needs aa when you have DID numbers anyway?
Previously to getting the SPA9k I've had my first SPA942 register with an IPTSP so that definitely works.. both your devices have SIP traces.. turn them on all the way up and see what you get.. it often helps to identify what is going on.

  • The configuration of every device involved
  • SIP protocol traces
And don't forget: there's no such thing as giving too much information when describing a problem.

Awesome..

1st: I set up a syslog server... i will try that. I want to make sure to try from a remote location because that is where I am having the problem. Hopefully that will help me. What do you usually set the level to? 3? I assume since that is ERROR? Am I correct in assuming this? And if I set the debug server to the same as the syslog, I can see all the registrations, etc.

2nd: I think I see what you mean by contact list. Under the webadmin of the SPA9000, I see for a specific line that there is a CONTACT LIST field. I am once again assuming I can put an EXTENSION number in here? And the extension number I put in there would be one that I set up for the FXS port? Damn that would make things MUCH easier!!!! (I hope I am right!!)

Thanks for the help again. I have been tinkering with VoIP for the past year or so and Voxilla is a PRICELESS resource!

I suppose 0 = FATAL, 1 = ERROR, 2 = WARN and 3 = DEBUG
You are correct about the syslog vs debug server.. set them to the same IP to get everything the device can send out.. also activate full SIP traces in the respective line tab (and for the SPA9k you have another SIP trace option in the SIP tab).

That is correct. Of course, you can also put an IP extension.. basically any extension on your SPA9k (you can put extensions that don't exist but obviously then no phone would ring.. but this has to work as phones can reboot/be disconnected/unplugged/etc).

I am about to shoot myself. I have a problem... and I KNOW what the problem is. However, every attempt to fix the problem is not working. Esentially, I am still trying to register remotely. I have the syslog set up and the SPA942 set to debug on the highest level. i am getting a "404 - not found" error when attempting to register. I see the packets going back and forth on port 5060 and I see the SPA9000 seeing the SPA-942, however, when the SPA attempts to register (it is NAT'ed), it is sending out the request to the 9k saying basically "register me @192.168...." So, I believe that is why I am getting the 404 errors (since it is trying to register with a private IP, the 9k doesn't know WTF to do).

Now, I have tried just about every combination of things I can think of. I know I will probably need to enable STUN however every attempt at this has also been useless. It ALWAYS sends the private IP. I can post the copy of the syslog tomorrow if anyone is willing to help me decipher it, but I do believe I have the meat of it described above.

I am really beating my head on the desk with this one. It almost appears as though something may be wrong with the IP phone since no STUN or NAT settings appear to be working. Can someone help me out? Oh yeah, I do have ports 5060, 6060 & 6061 forwarding to the SPA942 so it is not a firewall issue.

Ok... I attempted to contact linksys technical support... but they were just about useless. They want me to send an email to Cisco to have this resolved.

Here is a copy of the SYSLOG. As you can see, I am getting a 404-NOT FOUND error. I do believe it is because it is passing the private IP of the SPA942. No changes to the STUN setting seem to help. I am getting desperate here. This is one of the last things I need to get working....

I will absolutely give that a try right away! I have the SPA9000 on the public internet (no router) and the SPA942 behind the router at home. I am not sure why chaging the router would work because I have a Mediatrix VoIP gateway (baiscally does the same thing as the SPA-942) that has worked no problem (and, NO, I am not using them at the same time).

By chance do you know the make/model of the new router you have that is working? I have a linksys wireless VPN router that I can try in place hte netgear (older model) so that may just help! Now I am all excited again to get this working. THANKS!!

I had the same problem, the SPA 9000 registered without problem, the Spa942 under the router has no way to register. I changed the router and everything worked fine. My router now is LinkSys EFAH08W and everything works, i don't remember which router i have at home but as soon as i come back i will give you the name.
