Default Music on Hold question - external calls?

I connected an LVS 9000 system to Inphonex.com hosting. When I put an internal call on hold, the other end hears music. When I put an external call on hold(caller from the PSTN going thru the ITSP), the other end doesn't here music. On the Inphonex website, they say the MOH feature works for internal users only. Is this because of Inphonex or is this the way the system works? If I switch to a different ITSP, will the MOH work for external calls?

Default RE: Music on Hold question - external calls?

when using the SPA9000, the MOH comes from the SPA9000.. your IPTSP's MOH will not be used. However, I've found that the SPA9000's MOH works poorly.. I have a case open with Linksys with regards to that. We've found that FWD <-> FWD works, as well as VoIPTalk <-> VoIPTalk, but as soon as one end of the call goes via PSTN, or with a bunch of local providers I'm using, we get various problems ranging from no MOH to not getting the voice channel back after the call has been taken back from hold. The only provider where this appears to be working properly is Teliax.

As far as your IPTSP is concerned, they don't know when you put a call on hold.. the hold is only effective between the SPA9000 and your SPA phones.. for your IPTSP the call still appears to be active.

  • The configuration of every device involved
  • SIP protocol traces

Default Re: Music on Hold question - external calls?

I am having similar issues with MOH. I have made a .dat audio file of a radio spot my company runs and converted it to work in the 9000. I uploaded it via solarwinds free tftp client and the 9000 grabs it without issue. When I make a call internally on the system (ext. to ext.) the sound file I created plays perfectly when the call is placed on hold or is parked. When I call in on a PSTN or via a cell phone the 9000 plays the original classical music installed on the system.

Basically my *assumption* of how the 9000 works is that the downloaded (one time) music file is flashed over the original file via a tftp server. The said file is then considered the internal music of the SPA9000. The SPA9XX phones then direct the moh server to imusic to hear the stored file. This is logical to me but definitely not how it seems to work as the original music plays during an external call but the new music plays on an internal call.

Using the menu prompt of any of the phones:

menu -> directory -> corporate directory -> internal music

This plays the downloaded audio file and it appears that the classical file is gone. So I am at a loss.

The parameters in the web portals are such:

SPA9000

VOICE/SIP TAB under PBX Parameters
Call Park MOH Server: imusic

VOICE/SIP TAB under Internal Music Source Parameters
Internal Music URL: tftp://192.168.0.2/serv/music.dat

Each SPA942

EXT1 TAB under Call Feature Settings
MOH Server: imusic

There are no firewalls present. The system functions very well day to day for us but this is one of the few little bugs we would like to iron out. If anybody has any info or would like to talk give me a shout.
