and the extension does not answer, instead of forwarding to the voicemail system so that I can leave a message - the thing cuts me off and gives me a reorder tone.

If you add a substitution DP element on the PAP2T which turns an internal number you want to use for VM to the direct number on SPA400.. the caller would get as far as the "linksys voicemail, extension?" prompt (still pretty darned useless though.. so the reorder tone is probably more useful).
Oh, sorry I didn't explain that properly. When I pick up the Linksys PAP2 phone and call the SPA942 phone on the SPA9000, the system will not transfer to voicemail if there is no answer at SPA942 phone. It gives me a fast busy instead. Yet all other phones (on the spa9000) will work!

pressing # is supposed to disconnect the line

I'm actually in the process of setting up an Asterisk on the NSLU2.. I haven't found much time yet, but the plan is to move VM to that box, add all additional SIP lines to the box as well, register all non Linksys devices with it, and enable the two boxes to talk to each other so that in the end I have a PBX that does what I want. Depending on how well it goes, I might just throw out the SPA9k/SPA400 combo in the end.
Pressing # works internally, but when I call from outside, I set up a dial plan on the auto attendant like this:

<*99:800@ip.addr:5090>

This transfers me to voicemail. At the end of retrieving your message(s), try pressing pound (#) when calling in from an external line to retrieve your voicemail. I'll bet it won't work! This could leave the external line connected to the system forever.

Another strange thing, when calling in from outside thru the aa, if I press 2, the system will transfer the call to the linksys line. The phone rings, but no ring tone in the caller's ear. Very weird.

Change: SPA9000 Registration and Subscription timer value changes when interfacing to a SPA400.
Feel free to update any customers with these changes. Linksys TAC has been notified and have created a KB notification article.
Details:
If/when the SPA400 reboots then an ITSP call forwarded into SPA400 VM will not hear voice prompt. The workaround is to reboot the SPA9000 after the SPA400 then voice path is restored into voice mail. Problem is there is no notification if a SPA400 is rebooted. The interaction between the 2 devices needs to recover if either device resets. Now a user must reboot the SPA400 and then reboot the SPA9000 inorder to restore service.
After making the below changes then the SPA9000 will detect the SPA400 has rebooted and will reregister and resubscribe.
Required Configuration change:
Please set these values in order to properly configure the SPA9000 with the SPA400 (see attached for screen capture).

SPA9000
On the line that goes to the SPA400
Proxy and Registration section
Registers Expires: change from 3600 to
30
Mailbox Subscribe Expires
: change from 2147483647 to
30
NOTE: Only make these changes when using SPA9000 with SPA400 voice mail. This does not apply to other voice mail configurations.

Date of change:
12/22/2006

Voice products:
Version status 12/22/2006
SPA400 1.0.0.6
SPA9000v1 3.3.6
SPA9000v2 5.1.1

This change is in effect until further notification. A request has been submitted to update the SPA9000 Admin guide.

I believe your question would be best served when posted in another thread and not the sticky.
