I been trying to upgrade the firmware in my phone from v.1.00.06 to v1.02.12S however keep getting the message 'Image Format Is Wrong' at the end of the process of downloading (which takes about 5-10 minutes).

This happens when I try the upgrade from the phone itself, or from the web GUI (with the firmware load saved on my PC). I have tried several firmware versions from both WIP330.COM and from VOIP-INFO.ORG.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what this means and how I can complete the upgrade?

What happens when you use the firmware from Linksys.com?

The Linksys website only posts the version .06 not the later releases, despite the fact that they post an upgrade doc for v1.02.12S.

The upgrade doc directs me to download the upgrade from WIP330.COM which I have tried.

Have I missed the posting on the Linksys page?

Well.... I was specifically told by support not to follow the [second] process on the document, but to upgrade directly to whatever version was needed.

The last time I tried following the document as written (loading the SBE file, etc), the unit locked up, turned into a brick and I had to RMA it (within 4 hours of receiving it). This is apparently a common problem, as support knew immediately what was wrong.

I really am running out of patience with this thing. At the moment, I rarely use it, as it tends to go into a hibernation mode randomly where it becomes useless and unresponsive (actually I would call it frozen, but I am just trying to think positive.)

If you want to upgrade to v1.02.12S from v1.00.06A you have to follow the documented instructions. First, use the wip330_sbe.bin file and from that version go to wip330_v1_02_12S.bin . From the version u have u cannot jump to the latest one. I know first hand (I had the same error too).

Also, once I used the wip330_sbe.bin from voip-info.org. That resulted into a useless phone, as u described in ur earlier post. I know that because that day the wip330.com site was down and I found the wip330_sbe into this site. I changed the phone and did the upgrade by downloading the file from wip330.com and everything went ok. I did it 4 times already.

Regarding the hibernation mode, what do u mean? You cannot accept calls? You press buttons and it doesn't respond? In my case, I miss calls. I noticed that it depends on the AP. When I connect it to my home AP (D-Link), the phone works fine, but when I connect it to a Proxim at work, it sleeps after 10-15 minutes. I noticed that the phone sends beacon frames every 30 minutes. Maybe the APs consider it as inactive and maybe this is due to the Advanced Power Save Mechanism of the phone. I don't know...

Hello there i have a New wip330 phone with the new firmware loaded in ti but would like to have the version that you have with the skype installed i have been trying to back grade the firmware with no luck and i see you are tring to upgrade it with no luck
would you be interested in trading phones that way we will be getting what we are both looking for

To get Skype working on a firmware upgraded WIP330 follow the instructions on this thread. Yes, it does work but only until you reboot and at the expense of your SIP connection:
