Need Help: I configured my 3102 using the Voxilla Wizard. I set up two FWD accounts, one for the attached phone, and one for the VOIP/PSTN gateway. The setup works -- occasionally. I can pick up my phone, dial #9 get a dialtone, dial a number and sometimes reach an outside phone. More often I get one ring and then a busy signal. If I pick up the (attached) phone and call the gateway account, I will get the fast beep for a PIN. After inputting my PIN I will get a dialtone, dial a number and sometimes get connected. Most times I get one ring and then a busy signal. Also have bad luck dialing the box from the PSTN side. The box answers the outside phone call, asks for the PIN, and after inputting the PIN, I either get a connection or a fast busy signal. Any advice on how to improve the reliability of the VOIP/PSTN gateway? I looked at the debugging output but was not able to understand the information. Thanks in advance.

Umm.. last time I checked FWD didn't allow to dial the outside world.. so I suspect you're using another service for that functionality (you should mention that, and which one) which may have problems (especially if it's a free gateway.. you get what you pay for Likewise for incoming calls..

As far as I know there is nothing about FWD that prevents someone to make an outside call using the Sipura 3102 gateway. FWD is, in fact, one of the VoIP services that can be chosen by the Voxilla wizard to set up the Sipura. Also, I have been able to make calls in both directions across the gateway. The problem is simply that one can't make that connection with high reliability. I'm hoping there is some configuration that would increase the reliability. I've tried some tweaking based on my reading of posts on this forum but have not had much luck.

I think you are correct in saying that there is nothing about FWD that prevent you from accessing the PSTN and making a call on PSTN, that is how I think you are using your 3102. In fact I think you don't even need the PSTN side to register with FWD to do that, some fictitious credential will do. I think your problem is a mismatch between your PSTN line and the FXO port setting. I don't where you live but some country has very specific settings. One area to look is the DTMF, it sounds like the PSTN has got the wrong DTMF send to it and then behave accordingly (goes busy as the number is not recognised). Again on incoming calls, you don't say how many attempt at PIN input you have to do before you get busy. Another area to search is the dialplan which may contains some discrepancies

I'm using the Sipura3102 in the US. Also, I'm using the Voxilla setup wizard (after doing a factory reset) with the default dialplan. What I guess I'm looking for is a troubleshooting checklist. Right now I suspect that part of the problem is that I'm using a very busy network. I'm speculating that the entire sequence of events (tones, pins) necessary to set up PSTN/VoIP connection is sensitive to network conditions.
