Default SPA2102 and Panasonic Answering Machine

I have an SPA2102 with Vitelity right now. Service is great, but the voicemail sucks. I figured I would use my Panasonic cordless phone's answering machine. It works sometimes, but sometimes it doesnt register a message. I can hear the person talking to leave the message, but when they hang up, it goes back to 0. I know the answering machine works on a POTS line. Anyone know any tweaks?

This isn't the answer you're looking for, because I do not know. I was taken for a ride with sunrocket but I do have a locked SPA2102 (by teleblend whom I left) that I intend to unlock soon. Did you use the config info available at Vitelity's support area in your portal with success or would you care to share the config info? I am a new subscriber to Vitelity. By the way, why does the voicemail suck?

I just followed the setup from the vitelity website and everything worked ok. Vitelity is definitely not for beginners, so you have to know how to set everything up yourself. So give it a shot and send me a msg if you still have problems.

BTW, the voicemail sucks because its not like youre used to. To access it via a phone, you have to call the VM access#, enter your mailbox number, then enter your pin. So its OK as far as taking messages, just retrieving them is a pain in the butt, especially if you have someone else in the house hold who doesnt want to deal with it. I like it much better to just dial a few digits and it starts playing.

Thanks for the offer. If I can get past unlocking the gizmo, I should be OK. But for sure I'll PM you should I run into deep kimshee.

Right now I have it set up in X-Lite. What do you use as the outgoing proxy? I have it set the same as my incoming.

About voicemail: I never retrieve my messages by phone, always by email. Works great.

No proxy needed. Just the SIP server, port, username, and pass

I do not know if this will help with your issue, but there is an important setting that should be changed so that North American answering machines can detect when the call has ended.

Under the Regional tab find 'CPC Duration:' and change the value to 1. This will prevent the answering machine from recording a lot of dial tone after the call has ended.

The value of 1 that I give is just what I have found experimentally, so if anyone has the official North American specification for this value please speak up.

I think Boatman is on the right track, but a value of 1 in that field is only 1 millisecond. I would try 500 which would drop the voltage on the circuit (this is what CPC (calling party control) does) for 1/2 second. (500 ms). The permissible range is 0 to 1000. The default setting of 0 disables CPC on the FXS port.

A search turned up a troubleshooter for Panasonic Answering Machines not recording a message. Something about a "greeting only" setting:
Panasonic Telephone Troubleshooting Guide

No. That setting really is in seconds, so "1" is correct (and also btw what I use with success).

However, you might want to play with some of the other ring settings (on the "Regional" tab) as well. For example, in addition to the CPC Duration of 1, I also have the following settings (that might help the OP, as they are all closer to the USA telco "standard" than the default settings) set on my SPA3000:

Ring Waveform: Sinusoid

Ring Frequency: 20

Ring Voltage: 90

NOTE:
Whenever changing settings, it's always a good idea to reset the adapter (either power cycle, or use the .../reset URL) after saving the changes. That way, you know for sure that the adapter didn't somehow get "stuck" in the previous settings. Because I've found (the hard way) that even though the web interface shows the new settings, sometimes they don't really "take" (and you are sometimes still using the old settings) until after you "reset" the adapter...
