| on my last question I aksed here, the answer was quick and accurate, so I thought I would go to the well one more time my provider re-set my account, but now I cannot use the buttons on the phone to enter into my voice mail or (any "press * for this option, etc). The phone is set on "tone" and I have tried multiple phones with same result. I can however use my cell and access my voice mail without any problems. Could this be a frequency setting? I do have access to all settings. |

Inband sends the tones along with the voice stream. AVT and INFO are out-of-band techniques that send the tones as separate digital packets. AVT is also referred to as RFC2833. Inband only works if you are using the G711 voice codec. |

| no go so far, although being a newbie I may not have set everything proper. so I decided to list the area you are refering to (at least the area I thinkyou are referring to). these are my default settings Audio Configuration Preferred Codec: G711u...................... Silence Supp Enable: no Use Pref Codec Only: no..................... Silence Threshold: medium G729a Enable: yes G723..................... Enable: yes G726-16 Enable: yes......................... G726-24 Enable: yes G726-32 Enable: yes......................... G726-40 Enable: yes FAX Passthru Codec: G711u................ DTMF Process INFO: yes FAX Codec Symmetric: yes................. DTMF Process AVT: no FAX Passthru Method: NSE................. DTMF Tx Method: Auto FAX Process NSE: yes....................... Hook Flash Tx Method: None FAX Disable ECAN: no......................... Unused Codec: yes My original question I realize was not as clear as it should be. So in a nut shell.......If I call my own number on using my VoIP service, wait for my message to start and then I should hit * to enter into options, listen to voicemail etc. But when I hit * nothing happens and the voice message continues. | I was suggesting that you change DTMF Tx Method from Auto to AVT. If that doesn't work try INFO, if that doesn't work try InBand. Edit: I am not sure what DTMF Process AVT means, but the default is yes not no. I think this pertains to an incoming AVT packet, the ATA Admin Guide is not clear on this subject. | no go with any of the settings would the problem be in the dial plan? isnt this where the keys/numbers functions are determined? when I was having problems on my old account I udated my box (or so I thought) the software version on it was 3.1.8 now its 3.1.19(SE)....not sure if I went up or backwards LOL Last edited by snoopi : March 21st, 2008 at 08:15 PM. |

In your description, you have already dialed the number and the called number has answered and now you are trying to send the dtmf digits along with the voice stream. I would try setting the dtmf tx method to AVT and then try the preferred codec as G729a. I have seen some providers where this works when they weren't passing dtmf properly with another codec. The current software for the SPA1001 is 3.1.19. You updated correctly. |

| Im finally frustrated No go so far, thanks for putting in the time, Ive decided that I probably best call the provider (who in this case is a buddy) after Easter Weekend and ask him whats up. I will post the results just in case someone else ever runs into the same problem. Thanks again. |

| Update: After trying everything suggested I called my provider and they said everything was good on their end and suggested that I test my down load/up load speeds. So thats what I did and it turns out my download speed was enough to hear the conversation but my upload was slow. My internet provider refreshed my account which turns out (unknown to me) was unusally slow both ways (up and down). They adjusted it for me and all is working again. So apparently, slow up load speed will prevent the person on the recieving end of your call from hearing you and prevent the ability to use the * function or any other function. Again thanks for all the help. |
