Default Sipura: Phone_Home in web browser access to ATA

Is it true that the Sipura web server built into Sipura 1001 (and presumably other models) does an image lookup for every display of the Sipura settings pages? This presumably gives the referrer and its IP# to Sipura for wahtever it wants ot use it for.

And, the page is sto stupid that it doesn't use a hard-coded image size in the HTML code so that it has to wait for the image download before setting hte image size on the diaplyed page.

hmmmm,
- Don

If you right-click on the image and choose properties, where does it say that the image is located? On my SPA-2000 and -3000 the image is called spabanner.jpg and is located in the SPA's webhome directory. Are you perhaps confusing the href under the image that sends you to www.sipura.com if you click the image? Since the -1001 uses the same base firmware as the -2000, it doesn't seem likely that the -1001 would behave differently in this regard.

Of course, the -1001SE firmware extension is unique to that product, so it's possible that something is different there.

mhhhh,
- Michael

Thanks Michael. Of course, you're right. Yesterday, accessing a remote 1001(SE) it looked very much like the device was getting the logo image from a non-local source. However, I was confused. I just checked again now with a Firefox plugin, displayed the image paths, and it is using a *local* image, just as your wrote.

I retract my accusation that the Sipura was doing phone-home. My sincere apologies.

just a bit paranoid,
- Don

Don,

It's not paranoia if they really are out to get you.
