Default Pulse dialing and VOIP

Hi,

Do you know any VOIP hardware (SIP) supporting pulse dialing ?
I have Sipura-3000 and it doesn't support it. I tried to find something to convert pusle<->tone but with no result.

Thanks.

I am not aware of any ATA that supports pulse dialing..however you could get one of the tone to pulse converters like:

Mitel Smart-1 dialer http://www.dialerbuddy.com/mitel.htm

Sandman PULSE TO TONE CONVERTER http://www.sandman.com/digit.html

Like Vick said, the dialing relationship is between your telephone and your ATA. If your telephone cannot be set to generate tones you need to get an adapter like the ones he mentioned to convert your rotary dial pulses into DTMF that the ATA can accept.

If you do this, though, be sure to lengthen the Short Interdigit Timer, which is generally set for 3 seconds. This timer is used to determine when you have stopped dialing, so the ATA can place the call. With a zero taking two whole seconds to dial (one second for you to spin the dial and another second for the dial to return), it is very easy to spend the third second looking for what the next digit is.

I'll describe my problem more detail ...

I have one Sipura3000 in LocationA (USA) and one in LocationB(another country). I'd like to make PSTN calls to/from LocationB. The problem is that tone dialing doesn't supported in LocationB. There are a lot of countries(regions) where only pulse dialing is supported ;(
I can make calls from LocationB to LocationA using pulse/tone phone.
But I can't make call from LocationA to LocationB because Sipura3000 PSTN line(LocationB) should generate pulse dialing or I should have
tone->pulse convertor.

I've bought "Mitel Smart-1 dialer" but didn't find yet how to solve my problem using it. I'm not sure that it could help ;(

What I can't understand is why all old modems support pulse dialing but not SIP devices ? I'm sure that it's pretty simple.

So it seems that there is no VOIP solution for that countries where VOIP is really important because of expensive rates 0.30$/min.

Yes, you need a PSTN-to-Pulse converter. There is really no way around that. I also have pulse dialing from NTT (the Japanese phone company) because I don't want to spend $4 per month for DTMF. My PBX accepts DTMF input from my phones and outpulses to the phone company when I choose that line, so it is acting as my PSTN-to-Pulse converter.

You will need to find such a device. I used to use a Zoom Telephonics Demon Dialer for this purpose. They are long out of production, but you might find one on eBay if you get lucky.

The Motorola ATAs accept pulse or tone dialing, but it sounds like you want an FXO port that can generate pulse dialing. You should be able to find a DTMF to pulse converter that you can put between your SPA-3000 and the phone line in LocationB. These are even more common than pulse-to-DTMF converters because many COs were (and apparently, are) only capable of accepting pulse. I would really like to see Sipura's next-generation 3000 support pulse on both the FXS and FXO ports. (I collect vintage phones, so I really want FXS pulse support).
