| I would appreciate if someone can please help me in troubleshooting a problem with SPA-3102, which I have installed in two countries. I have one SPA-3102 in USA, which works perfectly and one that I sent to another country, which has the following problems and behavior as explained by my friend who has connected it (I configured it in USA before sending it to my friend in another country). 1) SPA-3102 to SPA-3102 communication works. My friend was able to call using voxalot SIP account registered on the "remote" SPA-3102 and leave message on my voxalot voice mail (I have registered account on Line 1 for my SPA-3102). 2) All four lights on SPA-3102 are green when line 1 is not in use (and blinking when Line 1 is switched on). 3) Internet browsing is not working on the PC when SPA-3102 is connected. Connection look like this: Cable Internet --> SPA-3102 --> PC. (using SPA as a router in NAT mode; this may be a problem in his configuration which I will explain later). Browsing works fine when PC is connected to internet without SPA-3102. 4) Dial tone can be heard when phone on Line 1 is switched on, but when a regular PSTN phone number is dialed out (on the same phone connected to Line 1), there is no sound at all, but just silence (I tested PSTN -- gw0 dial plan before sending the unit and it worked great, so it is not due to mistake in dial plan). I suspect that the problem could be in NAT vs. bridge mode, but I am not sure, so I will explain SPA-3102 configuration and the setup (also attached a zip file [with one html file inside] with the settings on the Router Tab of SPA-3102): My friend's cable provider (his neighbor) gave him this information, which I programmed in SPA-3102 before sending: Static IP address: 192.168.1.21 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default gateway: 192.168.1.198 DNS server addresses Prefered: 82.100.194.2 Alternate: 82.100.194.3My firiend's setup looks like this: Obtaining internet connection from his neighbor who sends him a long ethernet cable through the wall --> SPA-3102 Internet port --> SPA-3102 Ethernet Port --> PC Computer Ethernet Port. I assume that his neighbor has a router (but I am not sure), which he uses to route the internet conncetion to approximately 50 people in the neighborhood. Phone is connected to the phone port, while PSTN is conencted to the line port of SPA-3102. ATTACHED ZIP (HTML) file shows the SPA-3102 settings in the Router tab (Status, WAN Setup, LAN Setup, Application). Please help if you find something that I should change in order for SPA-3102 to work. I tested his SPA-3102 and dial plans on PPPoE connection (DSL) that I have here in USA, but before sending it I configured the SPA-3102 with Static IP as outlined above. Should it be configured for DHCP instead? Should it be in "bridge" rather than "NAT" seting under "Network Service" field in the SPA-3102 "Lan Setup" section, because his neighbor most likely uses Router upstream of SPA-3102 which itself is in Router mode (with NAT setting)? If the error is in bridge vs. NAT setting, how to correct it, and would connection to PSTN work with NAT setting? Is the problem with no signal when dialing to PSTN through SPA-3102 related to NAT vs. bridge or it is independent of it, and related to say FXS impedance and FXO impedance setting. If it is the "impedance" problem, I will tell him to try various settings listed in SPA and keep one that works. Any other suggestions on what could be the problem? Please help me in understanding what could be the cause of problems (no internet browsing and no connection out to PSTN through SPA-3102) so that I can try to solve them. I appreciate your help and look forward to trying to solve the problem. Last edited by sinko : January 18th, 2007 at 04:32 AM. |
