| What setup would perform the best--IP phone set connected directly to a router or SPA 2000? Some background: I have Sipura SPA 2000 provisioned for Stanaphone and SIPPhone. I use only one phone at a time and switch between the two SPA phone ports. Lately, I have unregistered (disabled Line 1, Line Enable-NO) the Sipphone line on the Sipura to see if I would get better connection quality with Stanaphone. So far so good! I also have an IP Phone set connected to the same router provisioned for SIPPhone. When the SPA performs poorly. The IP phone performs poorly, as well. But I can still get some service out of the IP phone when the SPA disappoints royally. Don't get me wrong, when the SPA is working properly, it is great. But I have to flush it (factory reset) often and reconfigure to get good service. Even to the point of resetting the SpeedTouch 510 modem/router. I am seriously considering getting a second IP Phone to replace the SPA, so I have two IP phones connected to the router and provisioned for each of my two services. Should I do it? Can I get better service? Or is it just a waste of money? What about technical issues that might bring up? Chime in please. Zeemaco |

| I don't have SPA devices, except some PAP2 units operating behind my Airlink101 AR410W uPnP NAT/Firewall router. These PAP2 units have been operating since day one unlocked on 09/26/2005. I never have to reboot, let alone to factory reset the device. Regarding your SPA devices, perhsps there is some misconfigurations. As with IP Phone, it appears to me too expensive. Besides that, I will be left with the device not being able to expand with new cordless telephone sets, i.e. the IP Phone won't take any other cordless phones except its own kinds. As with an ATA device, I can just plug in virtually any phones I like, i.e. POTs, cordless phones, etc. So, YMMV. |
