Hello, Am very pleased to have found this forum - what a pool of knowledge! As a novice to voip I would appreciate comments / advice on my thoughts of purchasing the linksy pap2 - my difficulty in deciding has been around how to configure it once purchased (chose this over handy tone 486 as it sounded complicated as I already have a router with 2 pcs on it and don't want to upset things!). I've read through various posts and info provided and am a bit stumped about getting an IP address - (which I believe I need if I want this device to work) I can follow all the instructions of how to set up an IP on my mac but my cable provider (NTL in the UK) can not give me the DNS Servers. They state . ntl has Dynamic IP addresses (assigned by DHCP). You do not have to specify an IP as directed by some manufacturers. The ntl DNS servers do not have to be specified within the router as directed by some manufacturers. So, do I try to get info. out of them or will I be ok configuring the linksys any way? Many thanks |

| If I understand your posting correctly, you just plug your to be acquired PAP2 into your internet sharing router. The router will give the PAP2 an ip address on your local network and your router is already taking care of the DNS commands from your pc's and will give the DNS server information to the PAP2. If you buy a PAP2 be sure to buy the -NA model that is unlocked. I wouldn't get one that is locked to a voip provider (or has been locked) (unless that is your only option). |

| Many thanks for prompt and helpful reply. I think I may have done a little too much information gathering and got a bit confused! Will order one now and give it a go. Cheery Jackie |
