Default How do I make calls to SIP addresses?

Linksys SPA9000 Linksys SPA9000 PBX
A full-featured key system/PBX hybrid with 4 or more Linksys business phones (upgradable to 16).
Price: $299.95
I'm a newbie to VoIP and Sipura so please forgive what probably is a silly question..

But how do I make calls from my standard telephone which is plugged into my Sipura SPA3000 and registered with Sipgate.co.uk?

I what to call Sip addresses similar to this:-

abcdef@dratel.org and abcdef@pulver.com

I understand there is a short dial code for pulver (can't find one for draytel) but how would I dial the alpha characters in the first part of the address?

Can I also setup more than the measly eight speed dials in the Sipura or should this be done in the telephone book?

Many thanks

Steve

I still need a solution for this problem....

What do other people do if they have to dial alpha addresses..

Can I setup speed dials in the SPA3000 to dial these addresses ?

Speed dials work for this, as do substitutions in the dial plan itself.

I've managed to sort it by experimenting... Just in case this is of interest to others this is what I did:-

Speed Dial 2:abcde@draytel.org

To dial it I pick up my handset press # to get on my VoIP line then 2#

Then it should ring....

So it is "digit #" to call a speed dial. That is good to know.

I know that the Sipura manual mentioned how to set/update the 8 speed dials (from their web interface), but (unless I missed that page) the manual may have neglected to mention what the "dialing sequence" was to actually call a speed dial.

BTW: I just tested it by putting "612@fwd.pulver.com" into my speed dial 2, and then pressing "2#" on the phone. Sure enough, I got the FWD time recording! So thanks for letting us know.

I too could not find it in the manual.... The manual is a disgrace, all this nonsense about its aimed at the trade.... Manuals are for people who need help otherwise no one would need them... Sipura you should be ashamed...

I'm glad I could help. I'm surprised no one else posted a solution not sure what everyone else does for a solution......

The manual is precisely what is necessary to purvey the equipment to the trade. And, that is precisely why this forum is so active.

One of the reasons that we are able to purchase these professional grade devices for such low prices is because we are not paying for the development of a User Guide that is aimed at the lowest common denominator of the user community.

For the record, both the programming of the Speed Dial parameters and their usage are intuitively obvious to the target audience of the support materials. This is why they are lightly described in these manuals. I am sorry this disappoints you, but that is why we are all here.

There is a service as well that you configure as a gateway on your Sipura. It has short codes for a lot of VoIP services (more being added). You dial the short code, followed by the account number, and the gateway sets up the SIP call. Can't recall the web adress just now, will troll thru my emails and post it here later.
