steventheamusing, there is one error in your logic for handling 900 and 976 numbers. While 900 is an Area Code, 976 is an exchange number. Therefore, you need to reduce the number of "x"es from 7 to 4 behind the 976 entries.

Here is my dial plan for my SPA3000 in the UK, still developing it, but so far so good, all works a treat

(999S0<:@gw0>|1471S0<:@gw0>|123S0<:@gw0>|100S0<:@g w0>|152S0<:@gw0>|<:01580>[2-8]xx.|<:@gw1>|xx.|<:@gw1>|<#9<:@gw0>)

Dialplan Action
999S0<:@gw0> 999 Emergency calls via PSTN
1471S0<:@gw0> 1471 BT Call Return Via PSTN
123S0<:@gw0> 123 BT Speaking Clock via PSTN (a handy test to confirm all is ok and that 999 will work when required, without hassling anyone)

100S0<:@gw0> 100 BT Operator via PSTN
152S0<:@gw0> 152 BT Customer Services Via PSTN
<:01580>[2-8]xx.|<:@gw1> Adds 01580 (my area code) to locally dialled numbers, saves the wife dialling 10 digits for local number

xx.|<:@gw1> All other numbers via gw1 (Voiptalk)
<#9<:@gw0> Dial #9 to be given BT PSTN Dial tone, and manually dial further digits as required

I believe these three elements have grammatical errors. The first should be "<:01580>[2-8]xx.<:@gw1>" (without the separating bar), the second should be "xx.<:@gw1>" (again, without the separating bar) and the third should be "#9<:@gw0>" without the leading less-than.

Now that you've done that, how about adding something on the order of "P9<:0158012345@gw1>" at the end, so that lifting the receiver and waiting 9 seconds will automatically ring down your wife's mother (or whomever you prefer)?

The simplest dial plan is:

(xx.|*xx)

Which lets you dial any arbitrary number of digits and gives you access to the star codes on the Sipura. Of course, you must dial the number as the provider expects the number to be dialed, and this varies from provider to provider.

If you can define your requirements more carefully (which includes the provider used), a better dial plan can be devised.

No, this is not necessary with the simplest Dial Plan. The first part of what you typed, "xx.", means that you may dial any number that has only digits in it and is at least one digit long.

A dial plan can be used to:

1. Restrict dialing to certain locations
2. Translate "local" dialing requirements to what the VoIP provider requires (e.g. If you are in the US in area code 415, automatically send 1415 when dialing 7 digits)
3. (SPA3000 only) Route calls based on number dialed

If your requirement is "dial anywhere," the dial plans we have provided you will allow you do that.
